little crosspost from the news page

TSMC’s 1-nm chip manufacturing process is starting to take shape. Further miniaturization of the semiconductor process technologies increases resistance at contacts, so TSMC and other mega fabs are striving to find a contact material that has a very low resistance, can transfer high currents, and can be used for volume production.

Jim Keller in an interview with Lex (name escapes me right now, I'll remember and link soon) said it really well. I won't try to repeat it but the basics were - anyone in the industry saying MsL is dead isn't seeing the (massive) picture. Just because one particular science/area is grinding to a halt doesn't mean everything everywhere is. Just as one technology runs out of puff another steps in to replace it. It's just down to R&D.
The industry is so big and such high complexity that not many people can see it all of the incoming tech at once.
He didn't think there was an end in sight in his lifetime

That's the one  well actually there are two interviews about a year and a bit apart, both are quite long and in depth but hell, they are good to listen to.
Well worth it in a rainy afternoon to just sit and listen to that smart car talk silicon, people and all sorts of stuff.
I'll probably through them on again at some point myself as there is tons to unpack

Yesterday I saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. If you'd ask me right after seeing the movie, I might have commented along the lines of "You know, I'm something of a scientist myself.":thumbup:

I believe the term they are looking for is blackmailed, not ransomed.

5 and 3 are amazing low rates given how well considered the rates on 7 were

    You'd think that'd make them cheaper ....
