Anyone else see this? http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ubuntu-edge Looks fucking amazing and has features a phone should have, like the awesome protective screen! I hate having an awesome device/phone and wrapping it in a protective layer of crap! I would be all over this, especially with the dual boot with Android, but I can't afford to put forth the cash. Hope it gets off the ground, might make some of the other manufacturers have a look at themselves.
I'd definitely be keen looking at the hardware specs etc. It looks like it will be an amazing phone! I wonder how much it would cost out right through.
Not interested in the phone per se, but I hope they succeed and shake the market up in the process. http://ubuntu-edge.info/
I hope they release the ubuntu edge project for all android devices eventually. Gordamn I want this though... Definitely going to be a collectors item for better or worse.
it won't be, see the specs: i doubt they will make it though. they would be better off just focusing on software and loading it onto nexus devices.
Argh, all that gorgeous hardware wasted on a 720p screen! You're probably right. Kickstarter funding appears to have stalled after the initial buzz. I don't think they'll come close to the $32 million they're chasing.
Sounds fair enough to me. And I'd happily sacrifice the screen res, which lets be fair.. you're not using anyway, for a screen that's damn near unscratchable. Massive goal, combined with pretty steep buy in price.. I mean, for a phone it's a great price, less than I paid for my HTC One, with proposed specs that would destroy it. But, it's a lot of money to hand over for a phone that you don't get yet, and the sort of money most people can only afford to shell out for an actual purchase, for something they need (or at least want) and get to use right now.
I understand what your saying. But the point of this phone isnt it make money. It is to prove that there is demand for bleeding edge technology and companies should invest and bring those technologies to the mainstream. I personally think it should be like the following: Preorder for $x or you can buy 2 months after release for a substancial markup. The profits made should be invested into research of technologies and development of the next phone
My thoughts exactly when I saw this. $32M is a biggggg amount of cashola. +1 to the invincible screen. "diamonds in your pocket" to scratch the screen .
$775 (now) for a phone with no ETA and unconfirmed specs? Might as well pledge for a moon visit in the next few decades . I just want to know what happens with all that money target is not met? Refund?
Pretty sure if they don't reach $32mil the funding will be closed and money refunded, and thus no phones for anyone? I think? Soooo as much as I like the idea, that figure is going to be very difficult to meet.
Very sad. I was so keen to go on it, but need someone else to get the double with me. Although with 21 days left, I doubt its going to reach its $32million. (Unless someone donates 24 million). It's upto $8million now.
