I may have misread your post.

But if you have already upgraded your old computer to win 10. Then the key is probably bound to the old computer.

Ie. Won't work on your new computer

    Hi.
If i want to install a brand new SSD as my new c drive, is w10 going to protest as I just recently installed it to a smaller drive.

I want to keep the 240gig SSD as a back up, ie, with all the software and ready to plug and play should the need arise.

So can I just pop in a new SSD and install w10 and activate it using the same key i used to active the 240gig?

I've done straight hard drive swaps and it's been completely fine. I think there is a list of what changes you can make without having to reactivate. But who knows with Windows whether it will decide to get grumpy or not : p

Apparently its tied to the mobo, so one should be able to replace every other component and it'll be fine, of course the main concern is usually the storage drive.
