i never new this thread, something i actually know about
i use frugal usenet, 50 yr, only as newshosting gets so many duds
i only use 8 bots, i can up to 50 threads, but i found theres no difference
change ports if you have speed problems
ng should run as fast as your little nbn can go, if not your host sucks

Yeah i just found this about changing ports :

    https://www.jdhodges.com/blog/slow-nzb-download-speeds-fixed-solved/

These are the ports available, but they dont seem to be making any difference

UPDATE : So it seems to be an issue with my VPN (PIA), with the VPN disconnected, the speeds are expected, but if I connect they are back down to being slow

Connect directly to the Usenet servers via their SSL ports... What do you gain by connecting via a VPN?

Torrents, and other P2P protocols, yes for sure. Usenet, not so much...

As long as you ensure your connections are over TLS you should be fine. And then you eliminate the VPN bottleneck potential.

    You going through a VPN?
Edit: Page has updated with more responses, weird... I had similar issues with the VPN. Ended up dropping it. Can't remember which VPN I was using. Had 100mb/s connection. Was getting attrocious speeds. Ditched the VPN, back to ~8MB/s
