People are actually playing UT3 still? I got it on release date and got the clan back together only to fail :/ hardly anyone ever on servers, clans not getting into it from the ut99 - 2004 days.. it was really disappointing.. i was hoping this game would get the ut'ers back into it a little but i was wrong.

Ive now since not played the game in a long time.. are there people playing this still. I have it installed still and patched up.

I miss the UT99 days, they were the best.

It's a very small player base at the best of times.

What would be great, is if EPIC realised that they've lost the knack for games, and merged with valve... allowing epic to work on the tech they do so well, and valve to start making their top quality games, with a half decent fucking engine!

Really? I've always preferred the engines valve uses over any of the engines that the UT series has used.

2.5GB for the free weekend version, according to my downloads.

Played it for about 20 mins. Bleh. Not my thing.

I seriously don't get why UT3 is bashed so much. If your system can run it with all settings maxed, it's a good looking game that's fast paced, not overly complicated and doesn't have stupid bugs like Quake-Engined 500FPS long-jumping and what not... :Paranoid:

I tried some other FPS game mentioned in this thread, based around Military/Tank/Vehicle stuff with players performing different roles (Soldier, Sniper, Anti-Tank, etc) but there were even less players than in UT3 and they were even more noob-ish!

    So yeah...

    • Why is UT3 so bad to you guys?
    • What other games are you playing that aren't a) full of 10yro kids with crackling voices shouting into their mics every 10s? and b) don't have stupid game-engine based cheats?

You ought to be able to select your own mirror in Steam these days.

I use the 3FL NSW one, all free content for me.

i have no problems with UT3, love it and we still have a VCTF Server up. If your referring to Frontlines though, I pretty much play it every night as theres far more players, and its fun. :)

I'm pretty sure you havn't. You may have prefered the games, or those games may have used the capabilities of the engines better.. but UEngine has always had
    A) Far better developer tools
    B) Far better LoD handling
    C) Far FAR better texture handling
    D) Much better detail for performance, and better scalability.

The original HL engine (heavily modded Q2 engine iirc) was not too bad. Source however, is fucking terrible in comparison.

    *scoff*

You can run the source engine fine on a fossilized GeForce3. UT3 chugs on my radeon 3870.

I don't suppose anyone has a clue how to make the combination of Steam, Vista 64-bit and UT3 work?

I've posted about it before, just dangling the line again...

i run that... no probs... i'd be looking more into your drivers or something if you have any problems... as i've never had a problem (with my old ATI cards or my new nvidia card)

People bash UT3 so much for the same reason that other people complain tirelessly about "10 year olds with microphones": They feel the need to bore everyone to death with their petty complaints about things that do not matter.

Same combo here, no problem. It did shit itself a when the latest patch was released (around a month ago), so I deleted the steam downloaded files and re-downloaded.
