I just reupped
wanted v 4.4 and the character pack...they look so cool jumping around
still need to get my head around a lot of this but hey keep the subscription for a month can it and take it backup later and still able to use the editor.
Just played the latest build (19th December) with a couple of bots.
Fast paced, frantic, twitchy. All good things
They have definitely noobed it out a bit though. Head highlight on the sniper rifle, countdown until weapon/powerup respawn... not a fan of these things
However - if it helps the game last longer than UT3 did - then I think I can deal with it. UT3 was fantastic fun when I played it on active servers. Vehicle CTF was epic fun - much like UT2k4 days.
Sadly UT3 didn't last and within 2-3 years it was essentially dead online sans a few people who would play every now and then
Anyway! Looking forward to UT4.
If you haven't tried it - sign up on the Unreal Tournament forums and get the download link from the "Top Secret: Members Only!" section.
Unreal Tournament (2014) - Pre-Alpha Playable Build
Also, this thread is funny
Some choice quotes!
one word... Game Spy... loved UT3 preferred it over the older ones (only cause i got into gaming later than most)
Downloaded ut4 last night and had a few rounds.
I don't like all the added rookie stuff like timers for pickups and sniper rifle cross hair on the heads of enemies
movement feels a little slow/heavy - with that said I saw some other players that looked to be flying through the air...
Hopefully the full game has the wow factor, yet to be blown away by environments/gfx since UT 2003
The linux version is apparently pretty good, so I'll be having a few sessions post-xmas. Hope to see a few of yas.
I initially tried the windows version and then tried the linux version yesterday. Few tips:
* Disable window compositing if you run it.
* Update to the latest vendor driver if possible (I'm on nvidia 346.22 via xorg edgers PPA).
Both seemed to run at essentially the same pace... ~30-60 FPS depending on map, number of players, etc.
2560x1600, everything maxed, GTX680.
Had a few epic games last night where I had my arse handed to me on the kAoS UT server.
Good times. Wondering if I'm just getting old or whether my U3011 is hindering me with twitch gaming
Also wondering if I can save on bandwidth by copying UT files from Windows to Linux so I don't have to update twice
Where are these servers hosted or how is it done?
I tried to play a game last night but kept jumping about, lag spikes. I usually never ever have lag, whether is is Dota 2 or back in the days of UT3.
I was playing on the kAoS Sydney server. There are a couple of australian servers.
Keep in mind this is a pre-alpha release. A lot of maps aren't fully textured/lit, the weapons are being played with quite often, there are general bugs/faults.
Still great fun though. If you can deal with being 0wned all the time by superior players
Pretty shotty but I guess that's pre-alpha. I couldn't even set resolution higher.
I only just got it and the 4.7 engine update had a quick look around changed the res up to 2560 and maxed everything out was fun but a little sluggish
set up a dedicated server works pretty well.
playing on deck and face is nice...weapons are tweaked so are the friggen jump boots
oh and set the bots to 4 and above and they are pretty nasty good old fashion run and kill fun
What times are you guys usually hitting the servers?
actually was going to crank one up soon to test.
still trying to work out how to alter the map rotation as some of them are just not nice
tested it on a couple of systems with 7850 and 7870 and using medium textures on those easy 70/ 100 fps and still looked good...plus love the death animations one time I was chewing on my shoulder...laughed my ass off
ok now things are getting fun
the editor is now free no more subscriptions.
if you were a subscriber you can get a pro rata payback(up until march or something I only paid 2 months so meh)
plus if you were a subscriber you get $30 bucks to sepnd in the marketplace.
Also a new update version of the game is out with loads of improvements and a couple of extra characters.....and they improved the bots....why...they are killing me as it is make em dumber I say
so no excuse not to get into this....especially if you are a modeller or music sound effect guy.
I,ll be testing the new server out later
The whole engine is now 'free'
Gave the new textured map a whirl, looking good...
