In between work, I like to try out new things with the camera. Last time it was macro video, this time it is "faking" slow motion. I only made this video when my mate said "wouldn't it be cool if you could show me bouncing the ball in slow motion".

Copy and paste from vimeo with some changes:
Testing out how far I can push the slow mo capabilities on a camera with no slow mo capabilities.
Canon Xh-A1 shot on 50i, converted to 50p in After Effects with some further slowdown with Twixtor plugin.
    Sgblade 35mm adapter
    lenses
Super Takumar 50mm f1.4 (warmer image)
    Industar-6IL/Z 50mm f2.8 macro (nice contrast)

Yep I agree.. could all video posters include the details of what they shot it with, camera and lens, and also song title and artist of any music thats included.. as I am always wondering that after I watch them..

Great work on this one.. looks extremely professional.. pitch it to spalding.. if that was shown on TV as one of their adverts.. I would have sat there and watched intrigued.. well done..

Sorry if this is a stupid question but was the author filming with a camera and using software to do the slow-motion? Or is it a succession of photos in short intervals put together in to a video, like a time lapse?

    The video is amazing!

I don't want to be copyright nazi here, but do you have permission to use the song?

Fantastic video though ! :)

thanks for the comments. Everyone I've shown it to has commented on the spalding ad. As for permission to use the song, no I don't know the chemical brothers. If there was any heat I'd take it down but it seems every second vid on vimeo is using some copyrighted song and there hasn't been a problem, yet.

Very nicely done mate! I wonder if you can get such slowmo effects with 30p footage from the 5DMII. I imagine it wouldn't be as smooth?

It really depends on the footage. If there is little motion in the shot then you can get pretty good "artifact free" slow mo. If you look carefully at my clip, you'll see some shots have this smearing artifact that trails anything with fast motion.
I used a plugin in AfterEffects called twixtor to create inbetween frames for realistic smooth slow motion but it has its limitations. If you don't feed it enough frames then it becomes quite smeary. That can be cool too, like this music clip:

Thanks for the reply mate! LOL that clip made me a little dizzy as my eyes try to focus on the movements

I don't have AfterEffects though. Look like I'll have to look for something similar for iMovie/Final Cut Pro :)

You should get one of the old school metal chain nets for the ring...

Very nice effect though, I like.
