I'm having problems with crashes in BF1942.
I've been pulling out my hair trying to figure out why.
I've tried everything I know to no avail.

One thing I've noticed though is that in the system information, a number of devices are sharing IRQ 7: Vid card, sound card, NIC, and 2 USB controllers.
Maybe I've been out of the hardware tweaking thing for too long, but I've never seen this before.
I do seem to get a lot of sound glitches in BF1942, so is this the problem?
How do I go about manually changing the IRQ assignments?

    System:

    Epox 8k3A+ motherboard
    AMD XP1800+
    256M 2100 DDR RAM
    Winfast A170DDRT (Geforce4 MX440SE 64M DDR)
    SB Live 5.1
    DLINK 100Mbps PCI NIC

    Onboard sound disabled
    Onboard RAID controller disabled
    Onboard COM ports disabled

Is it saying they are on IRQ 7 in windows or that dos screen u see before the Windows splash one?

IMO alot of things on the IRQ isnt that bad, but can cause crashing. It might be your problem but then again it might not be.

Try a reinstall with only the vid card in and then add one card one by one after you have installed windows etc with just the vid card.

See if they jump back on 7 again :)

Hi there, you might want to investigate as to whether your motherboard supports something called "IO APIC" .. it's a new thing where it gives your system I think something around 26 irq's to use thus having no sharing whatsoever.

One thing to keep in mind tho is that you will need to enable it in your bios and then reinstall windows XP *fresh* .. otherwise it will not work at all...

It's strange that your nic, vid and sound all jump on the same irq. Are you using Win2000?

Have you checked out the bf sticky?

You won't need a fresh install to enable apic on xp, a repair will do it. APIC provides a number of irqs above 16, but I don't know if it will seperate all your devices stashed on 7.

So long as the Sound Card isnt in PC Slot 1 and is in a busmastering slot u should be fine.

The Shared IRQ thing is a stupid Windows XP thing. :)

I have had problems with the soundcard and graphics card being on the same hardware level IRQ or something. Moved the soundcard and jitters went away:)
