Do you have a 'coke guy' who comes in and replenishes the machine? :D It was always disappointing when he was filling it up and you couldn't get your drink. ah, nostalgia, now happening at a loungeroom near you....

Yeah I know sorry. I was going to make a witty comeback, but was just at the Adelaide show today with my niece and nephew, and my brain slipped a gear.

I had an offer to buy my machine today after I guy got in touch through my WTB ad. The guy was in far north QLD, so I told him he was better off sourcing one locally. No actual amount, just what I would take for it.

Getting mine here across suburban Adelaide was hard enough, even though the seller had cage trailer, moving blankets, straps and a sack truck.

Ummmm, they actually still do kind of........ It's called "decocainized coca leaf extract". A factory in New Jersey has been importing Coca leaves from peru since the early 1900's and then extracting the cocaine alkaloid, with the leaf extract going to Coke for their secret formula. For a while that company would sell the Cocaine alkaloid for approved medical uses, but as Coke needed more and more leaf extract, they made too much alkaloid to be used medicinally, so they had to start destroying it under federal supervision.

Shame it doesn’t give the same effect as the white powder I do every second Fridays with high profile clientele.

2x2l bottles when I was younger. Nowadays not so much. You’ll probably hate me for this but I like the water mixed coke from takeaway joints as much as regular coke cola.

So over the weekend I spent $29 at cash converters on a vacuum cleaner to clean up all the detritus on the bottom (compressor) deck of the machine. Imagine my (pleasant) surprise when I realized the deck has only some minor surface oxidation, and taps out as solid all over.

Frankly I was afraid I was going to have a large corrosion problem, as these machines, while well built, did not always age well. Luckily for me, the machine still had both its metal drip tube and drip tray. Had either one of these been missing, then all the condensation would have pooled on the bottom deck, and rusted it to the consistency of cardboard, never mind what it would have done to the compressor itself.

The galvanized metal fridge liner is in excellent condition, no rust at all. Just needs a clean. The shelves and bottle rack need a bit more work. I can buy the exact shelves for this machine brand new from the states, but am trying to keep this machine as original as possible.

Honestly, there were a few sellers who were always happy to send me 1001 photos of the exterior, but hesitant to do the same for the interior due to corrosion from all the moisture. One seller told me he had lost the key, even though a photo clearly showed the lock had been drilled out.....
