i've been waiting for an update to VLC for a while, and finally it's arrived. i checked the preferences box, to see if they have fixed that horrid list of options, and it seems they have revised the simple preferences significantly. i still haven't played any movies yet, i am just excited it's finally been updated http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html
I got this version too when it came out ... Was excited because it seemed to fix the wireless when playing a movie. I.e. I have movies on the base station through an external hard drive. When the MBP plays with NicePlayer there is ZERO pausing (stutter). But when playing with the oldversion of VLC there would be stuttering unless I bumped up the caching value to about 3000 ms. Which sucks because it makes it hard to browse the movie. The new version 'appeared' to work without needing to do this. However I noticed that over the last few days my stuttering returned ..oh well.
there seems to be some quirks with the new vlc. i find when i play a video i can hear the audio but the video window is off the screen i think it's because i sometimes have an external screen attached, and it doesn't default back to my main screen when unplug the ext
Agreed. The new preferences are a welcome improvement and certainly make VLC feel more like a "Mac" application. Resizing movies scales up and down, rather than just appearing. I haven't been experiencing any the playback problems that other people have. Perhaps I don't use it enough?
There's definitely issues with HD h.264 content. Stuttering and outright freezing; rolling back to .8.6i and the stuff plays fine.
its back up again, but 0.93 only for non-windows OSs it appears. I'm largely underwhelmed thus far, I do like the full screen menu but I don't appreciate the interface changes, anyone figured out a way yet to use the old skin yet?
it was crashed when i linked before. that's why i used the version tracker link. i managed to get the file last night, before it crashed.
Is anyone still having problems? 0.9.4 came out quickly but it's still buggy. I have movies I've watched before which suddenly stop at some random spot and can't be continued. I've also found it takes a lot longer to seek into large files (4.4GB h264 files) than the old version did. And yes I've installed the new Perian as well.
Hadn't even heard of it to be honest. Just tried it now but it seems to have the same annoyance as Quicktime does in that it has to go and seek through the whole file at the start before you can jump in anywhere. It's probably OK for 700 or 1.4GB files but for 4.4 or larger it's a bit annoying having to wait.
anyone else having the problem where in fullscreen the play menu bar randomly comes up and then goes away again... then it comes up again a few min later?
