Watercooling a 290x with a $29 block

    I've always been a big fan of budget computing and I want to share the results of this little project.

    The goal was a universal GPU solution that I can move easily to future cards and I wanted to do it cheap.

    I took a gamble on an Alphacool HF 14 Smart Motion block for $29 and some ramsinks. Strapped it all together, and this is the result:

    Left is air (Asus DirectCU II), Right is watercooled (HF 14).

    Can't say I'm disappointed with that, especially considering it's overclocked. These figures don't account for ambient temp, just a basic comparison on with the same load on Unigene so take that as you will.

    Obviously this wouldn't work in crossfire.. but my main reason for wanting this barb orientation was so that the ram wouldn't be obscured :thumbup:

    The VRM temps seem better than expected. Looks good.

    For sure, I had a harder time cooling them than i did the core before going to a full cover.

    Nice job xenolah :thumbup:
