Visited the launch of Melbourne's newest Arcade venue last night . Over 60 original machines and some pinball.

Simon has done an awesome job restoring all of the machines. Last night we played Sega Rally, Daytona, Street Fighter CE, Galaga, Time Crisis, Double Dragon.

Is it 'normal' prices e.g. $1 per play or is it a pay $x for y hours arrangement?

it’s $1 for most games, $2 for Daytona and sega rally. But all machines are fitting with swipe cards so you get more value than the dollar amount you put on the card.

I believe you can also pay per hour as well

Damn, I used to be a gun at Time Crisis 2 (red side) but I'm old and rusty now, and most of the samples I've found when traveling usually have bad gun calibration making them unplayable. If i had the room and stupid spending money I would seek a good sample of that group of machines and Point Blank 2 for the rumpus.

Holy shit, a buck a game? Even for stand ups like Galaga/moon patrol/wonder boy? Etc?

excuse my ignorance if that’s the going rate these days in oz?

yeah that’s prob the going rate, last month I was at MagicPlanet, and it was disgracefully expensive too.. (but they were smart, they hid the cost but using swipe cards on credit) it’s prob the inflation, where my brain is still stuck in 1989.

I get it, overheads like space rent and electricity etc are probably the killing factor in setting up something like this, I’d imagine the cheapest part of the whole equation would be the machines themselves.

I wonder if that’s got something to do with the fact not many people visit arcades these days.. 20 cents used to go a long way.. .. anyways, I’ll go visit on my next Melbourne layover. ;)

May not be of good value if one credit lasts 30 mins on one game... need to be confident in your abilities to make the decision. :leet:

Yeah average run of a complete TC2 is 15 min. Rally/Racing would be 4-5 min? So I’d probably try all the racing games.

Rates seem to vary quite a bit. 1Up Arcade in Brisbane (https://www.1uparcade.com.au/) has a huge number of games and offers long term membership or daily entry for $18 for up to 8 hours of playing time, which I think is just flat out fantastic!

Unfortunately I never managed to get there while I was in Brisbane due to Covid 19 etc, other priorities and an untimely ankle injury that forced me to cancel the one arrangement I made with a friend to go there. I really must visit it when I next have the chance.

That does sound like a great deal, and sounds great for a day out. We have a similar thing here at Chuck E Cheese.. 90ead (about 33 bucks) for 3 hours of whatever games you like..

That's do-able, and did it a while back with the kids (that price also included fries and a cheese burger/drink)

But instead of concentrating on a game, you spend the time running around against the clock.. lolol it's frantic..
