Got a 10-15 degree drop in Hard Drive temps on my Workstation Server (ThinkStation S30 purchased off here) as the existing case design has NO AIRFLOW.

All I had to do was cut a 140mm hole in the side and exhaust out the hot air from the E5-2689, 64Gb RAM and 5 x HDDs, easy peasy.

Been doing alot of work on PC's lately.

Just finished a build for my Dad.

    Ryzen 7 1700.
    B350M Prime.
    32gb of UDimm DDR4
    GTX 960 4gb.
4x Corsair ML120 Pro mag lev fans.
    1tb Corsair NVME.
    500gb SSD
    1tb SSD
    2x 3tb HHD
    750watt Corsair PSU

All housed in a Meshify C mini with DARK tinted glass for a stealth look.

This was a combination of hand me downs from his older system. Donations from Forum member and some new parts. Last time we built him a PC was 2010. So he was due for an upgrade. He is a wildlife artist and photographer. So he lives in Adobe Lightroom 24/7

Also finished my HTPC which is also made up of hand me downs, donated parts and a couple of new additions.

    i7 4790S
    Gigabyte B85M-D3H
    16gb of DDR3
    240gb SSD
    2tb HHD
    1tb HHD
    LG bluray HDDVD drive.
    Noctua L9x65 cooler.
    650watt PSU
    2 Corsair PWM fans.

and a brand spanking new GTX 1650 from Galax.

The special thing about the Galax is that its 6pin power connector is on the end of the PCB NOT the side. Allowing me to get a more powerful GPU than something that runs PCIE power only. Another fantastic thing is that the 1650 has the new Turing Nvenc encoder chip. Which means that I can stream via OBS from the couch and not have it impact my gaming performance.

I wanted something no silly overpowered. But able to be gamed on no worries if I feel like sitting on the couch with a controller rather than at my desk.

I am a little concerned about cooling. But I will continue to monitor it and watch temps. Right now its whisper quiet.

That’s the old Antec Fusion htpc case yeh? I have a real soft spot for those cases and the older bigger and more expensive Thermaltake ones with the 7inch? front LCD screens. Built so many HTPC’s out of them with varying hardware for myself and my mates running XBMC and the later updated Kodi media center os’, coupled with the Antec Veris VFD (when it worked) it was a real treat. I moved to Streacom FC5 and 9 variant cases for its heatsink alike designs couple years ago.

He is a wildlife artist and photographer. RAW files fill storage really quick. His NAS is completely full also.

He will use all of that storage efficiently. Having multiple SSDs also speeds up adobe quite alot.

    So basically.

1tb NVME for OS and Software.
1tb SSD for Cache, scratch, previews and project files.
500gb SSD for general files and documents.
    3tb drive for raw data.
    2nd 3tb is back up.

Then he has his NAS also.
Yeh it is. I got it from Kelvin. I had been searching for a HTPC case that would fit in my TV unit. Only had 155mm to play with height-wise. Was just the stars aligning that he had it when I went to buy stuff from him.

I havent looked much into Kodi and Plex etc. But I think I should seems I need to leverage this system a bit more. But its nice chilling on the couch typing right now on my 75" tv haha. Also means I can be in the lounge with my wife when she is just playing on her phone or something.

Installing all my streaming stuff and games and going to see how this 4790s and 1650 super perform. Problem is I think my TV is capped at 60hz in any resolution. So I guess Im playing at 4k lol Doubt the gpu will handle it well. Will prob have to bump it down to 1440p to hit 60fps

Replaced my 32" 1440p 60Hz Philips monitor which I've had a few years now with a shiny LG 27GL850-B 27" 1440p 144hz monitor. Holy moly what a difference high frame rates make! It's genuinely a revelation.

i am trying to ask for some air cooling advice today (i did) but the 7ghz experts are m.i.a.. they must be too busy getting dry ice or sumthin'.

one guy who is a bit spaz, says it should be 1,2,3 and 4 only. something about pressure. yeah, hi i'm bob from perth and i myself am a bit crooked. no, not the mid torso way, the upstairs way.

edit; on a positive note, i think australia is well poised to win wars and battles in the world if we had to fight PC (computer) wars. we are all builders and know our stuff. then again, due to necessity (being poor) those indoneasians are pretty niffty too. still, overall we would be pretty good. we punch above our weight.

Not my PC, but put an SSD in the kids PS4 (my old PS4), repasted it and modded the airflow in and out, much much better performance wise and noise wise.
Repasted my PS4 Pro. (Living with the inlaws atm, not much to do.)
