Moccona is my go to instant. Various strengths to be had (I'm on an 8 atm). We usually buy 3 or 4 400g jars when colesworth has them at the ~$18 mark. I used to manage a cafe with the best coffee (locally sourced form Young -Art of Espresso - Cafe Carnivale) in town, since we've moved we haven't been able to afford a decent machine to brew at home. Can't wait until that day comes

    A VERY subjective question.
I work with around 50 people and a vast majority do prefer Moccona.
Me, I prefer the good old Nescafe Blend 43. (1 1/2tspns to a cup)
And then there's my parents who only like International Roast.

try it, it's quite cheap so if you hate it it isn't a big deal.

These days I overwhelmingly prefer to go without coffee if i know I can't get a good latte (and this is from someone who will quite happily throwdown 6-10 triple baskets in a day). I don't mind excellent filter coffee in a pinch - but out of the 6 or 7 attempts to get a pourover (and pourover is really just a single serve of filter coffee) that doesn't suck - I've had 1.

When I did drink Instant, Moccona was my goto - they also had a flavour variant that was preferable over the standard - I just don't remember which one it was (wasn't Kenya tho).

A local has that here, Kombi blend. Pretty tasty stuff - but his cafe is far out of my way, and other vendors have decent stuff (Campos) made well. Still when I visit the old man, I grab him a FW and myself a Latte.

Indulgence is the best Moccona one IMO. For some reason, it tastes stronger than the "Rich" one that's rated higher.

Colesworth does specials on them (last one just ended at Coles for 150g at $7) about once a month so I usually buy up a few then to tide me over until the next special.

    OP - put a poll.

My answer is moccona. As above only buy the large jars on special @ $16-18 and take it to work. Medium roast is best for me - has more caffeine than dark roast :)

I'd rather my aeropress than instant, but when I just CBF I've always gone Nescafe Espresso blend (the green one) for ages

    Have you considered disowning them?

Yeah passive caffeine ingestion is rife. I stood next to someone drinking a coffee once and I swear my pupils dilated.

this is the one we buy and as you found the 8 Ind is better than the 9 Rich.

For instamatic coffee it's not too bad.

I may be a coffee snob, but.... not to any great extent.
I have an Aldi Expressi coffee machine, it's good and most of those coffees are good (I have the 10+ strength ones)

In any event, I content there is NO instant coffee worth drinkii9ng, and therefore there is no 'best' one.

Life is too short for bad coffee or cheap whiskey.

You are not a coffee snob.

thats the whole point, life is too short to be sitting around making coffee.. this is the only reason i dont do plungers or those fancy machines. its a big pain in the ass. instant is just instant. and i can do more interesting things with my time.

    each to their own though.

    I certainly am.

I have a $9000 La Marzocco Single Group in my house. :D:D:D

Now you all have something to aspire to. (STFU about Slayer/KvdW Speedster).

While choosing the right jar of instant is important, I think it's equally important how you make it..

I just got a digital kettle, and I really enjoyed a cup of instant moccona caramel coffee mixed with a bit of 95c water, about 40% of the cup, then the other 60% was heated frothed milk at 65c. Delicious, smooth, sweet.

I like my coffee's on milk though, everyone's different.
