Today was a difficult day. Cleaning and rearranging the games room with my son, he revealed to me today... ugh, I can't even say it out loud...

He said... he said he "doesn't like the CRT picture curve, and doesn't like scanlines".

Friends, I don't know what to say. For years I thought he was right there by my side. But today, he reveals that he prefers a flat screen LCD and big, chunky pixel graphics without scanlines.

It's been a really tough day. Please, send me your thoughts and prayers.

I just watched that now.. not really a fan of making consoles portable, but holy crap... what this guy has done is PRETTY DARN AMAZING!!.. very cool. VGA mod to boot. really is very cool, and his trimming is impressive.

    good stuff!

I'm sorry you're going through this. It's not uncommon for offspring.exe to become corrupted. Might be worth compiling a few more from source and see if they run better.

Being a parent is brutal elvis I hear ya. My eldest has turned away from 'proper' gaming and spends as much of her day as possible playing Roblox. For her birthday this year she wants Robux.

    Where did I go wrong?

Did a CRT fall on his head when he was younger? Or just a teenager being a shit?

qwerty, I noticed you use a SMD2 (in the lounge) while you have a SMD1 in storage? WTF, you should know the SMD2 has poor audio compared to the SMD1.

Eh, me neither really. The crt thing never bothered me, I remember on my ega xt WAY back when I ran risk. Oh holy display modes of the goodness it was non interlaced. I wished all games were that way. At the time I had no idea what it was or was doing, no lines!

hey guys, another question re: the above P166. Do I need to actively cool the P166? the HS seems cool to touch. The fan is so loud its not funny ... when I stop it, the machine is silent.

I ordered some replacement 5cm fans but coming from China so will take a while. Maybe in the meantime I can use a 120mm silent fan blowing over the top of the HS ? thoughts?

just put a resistor on the + line of the fan to greatly reduce the rpm.

Another trick from back in the day was rewire the fan to see 7v. I can't quite remember the process but I think you use the 5v rain for the earth wire

    thanks guys ...

another question ... I installed DOS and AWE32 as well as the Roland SC-55, tried few games ... oh those memories !

I cant get the music to play correctly with the SC-55 and Monkey Island 1. I use the r command but it doesnt do anything for sound. I tried to start the SC-55 in MT-32 mode by holding left instrument and then powering on and press All ... that resulted in weird sounds coming out. Any idea ? I really want to relive the full experience !
