I remember trying it in about 1983 on a few machines, but I never got free credits, it just made the screen flip 180 degrees:lol:

I don't even know where to start. I could write a list of over a hundred "must play" arcade games from dozens of genres. I've spent the better part of the last 20 years playing something between 100% arcade games to a 50/50 mix.

Arcade games have always been a part of my life. Choosing a favourite would be impossible.

You know me far too well. :)

Here's a list of games I think everyone should experience at least once in their lives. The list is by no means complete. There's more missing than are listed, and entire genres aren't there. One day I'd love to compile a complete list, with a small "why you should play this" one-paragraph review for each. Maybe when I win the lotto and retire...

If you want to see screenshots or more information, whack the game into MAWS:
    http://maws.mameworld.info/maws/

Likewise, Hardcore Gaming 101 is compulsory reading for great reviews of many of these titles:

For the longest time I always wanted to have a Tron Environmental cabinet after playing in one in an arcade on George St Sydney a good long time ago - however I don't really think I would play it that often and it would end up in the corner of the garage covered in dust... probably just as well the change of me getting one is next to slim :)

I liked it quite a bit. A hell of a lot tougher than Gigawing, but still awesome with the "pierce laser" mechanic.

    Don't tease me! :)

I'd love to see that remade. Great concept for a brawler.

I have played one these in a private collection in Sydney a few years ago, really interesting game play and experience. I only know of two in Australia.

Yes yes, too many good games to list in such a short time. I told you I'd miss tonnes.

Far too many good old games to document. It's half the reason I still love classic gaming so much - there's so many games to go back and play, it leaves little time for the modern stuff! :)

While in my last years at school I had a daily paper round in england that funded my weekends away to the fun fair and the peer arcades.

    I always played :
Outrun (never completed it, go to final stages, I still play the music files)
    Operation Wolf
Gauntlet (Blue Elf needs health badly)
    Golden Axe
    R-type
Commando (not sure on the name there)
and some 4 player wrestling game, cant remember the name either.

edit - oh and space harrier too.

I spent far to much money down these things :)

I still have 2 machines. Both generic brown stand up 2 player. One has a Gauntlet board in it, the other Street Fighter II special edition but the monitor has gone.
