i agree with buubox adsl 2+ isn't always the best alternative. If your looking for speed stick with cable and pay the extra for the extreme plans. If you want alot more dl though the only option you have really is adsl 2+ then.

The 30Mb extreme cable would be good, but two reasons i cant/dont want to get it.
One my parents dont want to pay more for internet
and two im sick of telstra cable with counting uploads :tired:

In regards to that it's indeed amazing that Tassie gets something first. Wow.

I agree as the state gov has its own fibre rolled out between Hobart, Launceston, Burnie plus a Hydro/AAPT joint venture already has fibre to the home. Plans suck ass thou.

On topic, ADSL2, metres from the exchange but I suspect my modem sucks.

Woah man you should be complaining about that connection. Thats worse than 1500 adsl 1 speeds. I was once with exetel, they were good when they first started atleast.

Why would anyone be surprised, the Government is now set to create another Public/Private Company problem, when they already have no clue how to overcome the monster they created in TelStra.

I get better than that on 1.5mbit w/Exetel, So not an Exetel issue there, Probably a line issue.. Changing providers isnt going to help that speed at all if I'm right..

So just how do you think they should regulate/separate or otherwise handle Telstra?

Building the FTTH network effectively forces Telstra to play on the same field as everyone else without having to all but destroy it via a structural separation (See BT in the UK) - if they are the best/greatest/most innovative/whatever ISP/Telco, they should have no problem excelling there.

I wouldn't be surprised if the current separation talk going around now is just further regulating.

And with regards to the company that gets formed to implement/maintain/manage RuddFibre - We can only hope they do it right this time and not give them a retail arm.
