Although I personally own Creative iTrigue 2.1, I'd still recommend Logitech for 5.1.

Why? Because I simply think they sound that little bit better. Just my 2 cents.

Also, whats the z 5450 like?

The Z-5500 should be pretty good, considering that price range, and from what people say, it seems to be the best PC speakers you can get at the momment.

I find it especially weak in the mid-range. Something which pisses me off, but I don't have the money to buy something better so I'll live with it I suppose ;) If you like big heavy bass, then I suppose it'll be great.

I think the 5450's are silly, since they are supposedly wireless, but I don't see the point since you have to plug it into the power as well.

If you want to use them as home theater speakers though, don't get it. There is good reason why it is a PC speakers, and it is built as one. If you plan to watch movies on your PC, it should be fine, but in a living room, spend your money on a proper HT set ;)

I have a set of Z-5500Ds and they've been flawless, they never miss a beat (pun unintended) and for $500, which is bugger all in the "decent" audio world, they do pretty well. Just don't expect them to compare to anything more expensive than $500 they are cheap speakers, so don't expect the best audio experience of your life, expect a good sound for $500.

i see. So the logitech z5500 is mainly built for pc use. If i was to get a 5.1 surround sound speaker system, then i should opt for a proper HT sound system.

'Proper' sound systems can be easily $1k+ so also depends on your budget :Paranoid:

His budget is pretty significant. He could get entry level stuff - the Zensonic Z810 series, for example. As a kit I think their RRP is $800ish, and they have some good sound for the budget price. Better than the Logitechs, anyway. ;)

Even if you went with some floor standing fronts to begin with, then purchased the rest of the surround setup later it'd be better than going mediocre PC speakers.

Go Logitech Z680's, loud, big bass and clear. Recommend them over Z5500's cause they are pretty much the same and Z680's are like $100 cheaper. I have Z680's and they pwn!

You pretty much get what you pay for and it boils down to what do you want. If the OP was willing to spend the 500 dollar budget, I don't see why he should not get the 5500? the 530 is extremely good value for money, but it is still far from being able to match the 5500 :)

Besides, the 5500 is extremely good value for money as well :)
