Asus over Asrock, Most Z68 boards are great Overclockers.

i recently bought the z68-v pro because it was the cheapest asus board with the highest phases.
    ASUS Digital Power Design :
    - Industry leading Digital 16 Phase Power Design
(12 -phase for CPU, 4 -phase for iGPU)

but, when it comes to value for money, i'd go the asrock extreme4 gen3
    - Advanced V8 + 4 Power Phase Design

    hope this helps.

The fatality board has 12 + 6 phases. $30 more.

Id thought id might get that instead, since the asus gen 3 board isnt out in australia yet.

im using the asrock z68 fat gen 3+ 3 friends have them...kicks ass..

very fast+ stable(both pci-e 16x slots can future upgrade to ve 3.0 express

oclock 2600+2500k very well and uses less power than asus (idel+ full)
hense slightly lower temps for cpu.

sata 3(intel) very good esp with ssd...

    sli support - i have a old 295, but friend 1 has 2x 580 gtx, another has 2x 560 ti in sli

also tested ram in board, at 1.5volts

    16g 100% stable
    Corsair CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3(x2 kits) 1600
    my setup running at 1.5volts a 8 9 8 24 t1(ram version 5.11) batch same)

    friend 1 G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-12800CL9Q-16GBXL (4x4GB) DDR3 1600
    friend 2 G.Skill Ripjaws X F3-17000CL9D-8GBXM (2x4GB) DDR3(2x kits) 2133

my oc is 1.38v at 4.8h (cpu wall) without going to stupid unsave volts.

i tried unsave volts 1.58 goes to 5.18ghz stable(but i dont want to kill my cpu(water cooled)

im getting from my 3x ssd sata 2 in raid 0 880mb/sec (intel raid write cache on).

plus i still have a usb+floppy drive combo (reads hcss cards), so i plug it in,+ i hook up my 118 ide pioneer burner+ sata pioneer 219

i keep the world of war cd(cod 5) in the ide drive(needs it to startup)

but i can rip full dvd in both burners st the same time.

also tested(top slot) in 2 machines same asrock board

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium FATAL1TY Pro PCIe

    no problems

asrock also has 2 cool things (that will cost you extra on asus)

fast boot (for me its 2-4 secs bootup) (vs 26 sec boot up(cold boot via power button press)

    +

    XFast LAN Technology

ccspeed (you have to buy it normally(iv been using it + 1 years, makes a difference. really does(lowers ping for games)+ urorents(+ gaming+ teamspeak worked 100% etc)

    http://www.cfos.de/en/index.htm

    anyway it free with asrock...

    iv also tested some cards..

    asus x4 usb 3.0+ sata 6 card
    gigabyte usb 3.0 pci-e x1 card
    sil 3132 pci-e card(atronics) + jmb 363 card(tested ok)
    highpoint raid 2300 card

adaptec usb 2.0+ sil 3512 card pci

    +
    gigabyte i ram v1.3 4g ram (ok)

    usb 3.0(onboard tested with.
welland turbo lepart hot swap box. ok
    + usb 3.0 hub astone model(ok)

    no faults

tested usb on front ok, tested usb 3.0 boot up+ legacy mode..ok

tested 1 video card only in bottom x16 slot(2nd one) runs at 16x v2.0(295)
motherboards tested ok with evermax 1250 sli psu(red one)

its allways good to know if compatibilty problems exist.

    found 1 fault.

pci sound blaster augy zs.. stops pc from posting.

+ dos softeware (univ cal 2004) to secure erase ssd. does not work on efi bios

3 fault, onboard floppy work to install xp raid drivers ok, but usb floppy drives fails in complete xp raid disk install(had to slipsteam a cd+sp3)
not sure if fault of board or general efi issue?

    bug 4? samsung galax 2 phone(pc win 7 64bit software + floppy drive

if you install it under xp, ok.. under win 7 64bit floppy drive goes nuts(mental breakdown) floppy light+ noise continues to acess no disk in floppy.
uninstalling samsung crappy software does not fix it(does something to windows registry) restore back to before you install galaxy 2 software.(works in xp)

i haave found thats its not recommended to use the pci slots.

1 very incompatible with add on chip(not built into chipset anymore)

2.. bandwith is shared with lan+pci etc... pcu bus usage goes up+ down to much.. bad for pc(dont get a 1155 board if still using pci cards in general)

on this board it recommended to use the 3x 16x slots + 1 pci-e slot only...dont use the pci- or more than 1x pci-e slots.. not enough bandwith.

    board good for 2 video card + x4 slot(pci-e)(its 16 in length), + 1 pci-e x1 slot max

you could set up a 2 sli+ last slot for a 4x raid card, or video card for fix(say old 450gt?)+ 1 sound card

Did you end up buying a Gen3 board?

Just a heads up, I got email from PCCG in regards to me asking about the Asus Gen3 boards and they said they should be listing them on their site later this week.

The P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/#specifications looks like a pretty good mid range board. If I go with SB, I'll probably get that board. I think I'll wait for X79 to be released first though to see how that performs.

Checked PCCG and they have the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 in stock. It's $50 more than the non-Gen3 variety ($269 vs $219).

I've already got that board on my wishlist along with some other parts. Now I just need to get my Raptor back from RMA then I can go hit the checkout button...

Go ASrock they ripped it up with their Z68 boards, best priced & very good performers. Only downside is virgin BIOS, which they could fix faster

Are people preferring the ASRock Fatality over the Extreme 7 GEN3?

I'm leaning more towards the Extreme 7 personally...
