Well that's good news. I'm obviously ignorant to those other programs. My main point in saying that is the lack of Linux drivers for PCI-e tuner cards, in which case I'd recommend the Hauppauge Nova TD-500.

Can you record from a VCR on a hauppauge 2200? I'm looking at purchasing this card but I'm also looking at transferring hours of footage from a VHS to the HTPC, I can borrow a VCR but I think it's only a stereo unit with RCA which I have to confirm.

You have reasons or just superstitious?

I've recorded 4 simultaneous HD streams from those two tuners faultlessly, and I've had them for years now, never a problem. Use WebScheduler for recording, and DigitalWatch for live viewing (really wish development of DW would continue).

I had a MSI usb tuner and wasn't happy with it, probably a cheapy but nonethless I want something which has analog in so I can record from VCR and not take up a usb slot. :)

If you want an internal card I would go for either the DigitalNow Dual PCI or the HVR2200.

For external tuner, nothing beats the TinyTwin, you can find them all here:

I have the TinyTwin USB for when I travel (a lot) and a HVR2200 in my HTPC.
The HVR has been stable and changes channels awesomely fast, the tinytwin is not as fast but still very acceptable - and I can plug it into the HTPC when I'm home for 4 tuner love!

    Both recommended!

I have the Compro Videomate E700 and I find it a really good card, it costs about $130 and comes with an MCE remote and dual tuners.

Yep, I find slightly faster channel changes on the E900F. Haven't used the radio app for the 2200 but can the one for the E900F is simple to set up and easy to use without a monitor on. Can record radio too... if you want to do that LOL

*sigh* I bought the HVR2200 and all HD chans are jerky, the picture seems to ghost slightly on SD chans like 10, they look more ntsc then pal.

Yes it is. Dual DTV. As well as Analog (I think dual, not sure never bothered trying Analog)

I use three Asus U3100 USB TV tuners - 6 channels of simultaneous digital HD recording goodness under MythTV.

Check the OCAU MythTV Wiki for a list of tuners that work for both Linux and Windows.

Note that tuner alone will not necessarily give you a jitter-free image. For NVidia cards, VDPAU for Linux and PureVideo/CUDA for Windows give smooth video decoding and playback just like how the PS3 does it.

I have the Gigabyte MA785GPM-UD2H, so it's a integrated ATI 4200, plus I have 4gb of ram, I shouldn't be getting jitter! aarrgghh

What's your CPU usage like when you playback something? Over 10%? If it is, then your gfx hardware is not doing the decoding work - your CPU is.

then you might need to get a dedicated card and disable the integrated video in order to alleviate the workload off the CPU to the GPU.

HyRax1: I'll check tomorrow night, I've had to rip out the 2200 due to it being faulty and have to rma it (tv ant socket is loose which I don't think is the cause).

ni9ht_5ta1k3r: This mobo suppose to support blu-ray playback, pc got decent marks in W7, everything was above 5 except Aero performance which was 4.

Maybe your signal is crap and it comes coming in and out?

As you said you should be getting hidef with that board's onboard GPU.
