Mine is downloading nicely at the moment...
I am amongst the chosen!!! 5.95GB folder in my SEADRIVE guise! Tried install now but no boot.wim it said.
I couldn't wait so I used ESD decrypter to convert the .esd file in $Windows.~BT to a bootable .iso
Seems to be running great. Skipped both product key prompts, Windows was activated after installing. Activation in Windows 10 is supposed to be based on a hardware ID.
Well didn't I have some issues last night.....bloody windows decided to uninstall my latest nvidia driver, attempt to install it's own latest nvidia driver from WUP, subsequently fail to install and leave me with a laggy setup using some default windows pnp driver. Fark me. So yet again installed nvidia's driver and all seems to be ok now.
Where is this file?
You can force it to start preloading.
Seems to be trickling down after running that command... very slowly.
Worked for me. Thanks for the link
A few Win10 tweaks I have found useful in my testing for those upgrading today, they also work for Win 8/8.1.
How to change the title bar color in Windows 10 with a simple modification
Desktop Gadgets For Windows 10
I know MS discontinued gadgets a while ago, but I've always had them and never had any issues running them and I can't live without them
I really wish they would just have a button that allowed you to download and install on your own command. I really want this on my computer noW!!!!
that's the version i've got.
my $Windows.~BT folder is 5.26gb.
for those wanting to make a bootable iso from the install.esd file.
I love classicshell and have used and recommended it on Win8/8.1... but im not really seeing the reason to use it on windows 10? Sure the worlkflow is a little different to the 'classic' start menu, but for my 2c it works a little better.
Has anyone successfully upgraded yet? Or are we all in the same situation with the 5.5gb $Windows.~BT folder?
A few lads on Reddit seem to have upgraded, or at least had the Window appear saying "Run upgrade now or schedule later"...
Maybe this afternoon when I get home from work...
Yep I agree Win10's start menu is leagues ahead of Win8's. I put it there as an option for people coming from Win7 so its a 'smoother' transition for them
It is not at all intrusive and highly customisable and the new verison integrates perfectly with Win10...so if you want to change only one thing or alot, the options are there. Personally, I like how the win10 start screen shows as an icon in the start menu...rather than replace it.
and where is this folder ?
all I can find is in windows update is a message that "we will let you know when the upgrade is ready to be installed on this PC"
funny that it doesnt mention download and install ?
It's in your local C Drive. Make sure you show hidden files and folders.
Its a system hidden folder.
Is it possible to do a clean install using a Win 7 key? I'm not keen on upgrades, would rather create an ISO and do a clean install if possible?
mine is 6.38GB
When I run the setup I get to the first screen with the install now button, hit it and get an error that it's missing boot.wim
setup.exe version is 10.0.10240.16384
[ed] now creating iso with esdtoiso. Will see if that lets me install tonight
My insider installation has the hidden folder but it's all timestamped from a couple of weeks ago, which I think was when I did a fresh install of 10166 or whatever the last ISO build was.
Didn't check either of my W8.1 installs.
