Sounds nice, but also seems like a lot of work to find out if this is against copyright law in France (or Australia). Given the warnings on the website I'm guessing it would be...?

This isn't a new thing for retro computing or retro gaming. Most of the stuff any retro collectors attempt to acquire is no longer being published or sold, so squiring software is often problematic and falls within legal grey areas of "abandon-ware".

It's pretty clear to me, however, that retro enthusiasts are willing to pay for things when they can. Sites like GoG show that people are willing to legally pay for old software when the can, especially when they know that money goes to either the original developers, or legal rights holders, which promotes them to continue releasing old software for our consumption.
