This program opens the portal to a new digital media Experience.Listen, record and organise music, movies pictures and even Pause TV!.Use internet sources to enrich your media with albumart or song names. Experience media as never been seen or heard before.

    Mimic - http://uimimic.sourceforge.net/
Mimic allows HTPC enthusiasts to dynamically build complex, flexible user interfaces. In addition to the front-end functionality you would expect to see in an application of this nature, such as a picture viewer and a media player.

    Chameleon - http://www.xmission.com/~smesser/
Chameleon is a menu driven framework with a very customizable interface. You can add your own bitmaps or use the built in button types. All buttons currently have four functions. Buttons can execute a command , launch an executable, call a submenu, or launch a Chameleon dll. It is my intention to have Chameleon be just a front-end. Adding functionality would be accomplished by standalone executables, worker dll's, or add-on modules.

    MediaEngine - http://www.mediaengine.org
Originaly designed for the carpc, does have some features that some may find enjoyable on a media center pc.

Windows Media Center Edition (MCE) - http://www.microsoft.com/mediacenter

    MainLobby - http://www.webpromotion.com/cinemar/mainlobby.html
If you've been searching for a cool looking front end for your HTPC, look no further. You no longer need to spend thousands to have a great looking media server or whole house automation control. MainLobby 2 turns your TV, Computer or Webtablet into a huge color remote control. MainLobby 2 allows you to drag provided buttons on to a Stage, name them, then launch your favorite program, movie, music, playlist, or link to another Scene. Send IR commands, launch external CD's or DVD's in your changer or control your entire theater using third party programs and hardware (GIRDER SUPPORT BUILT-IN). Create your own HTPC kiosk for friends and family to use without being concerned they will access other files. MainLobby 2 makes you look like a seasoned graphics artist because we provide all the graphics and background skins. Showshifter - http://www.showshifter.com/
ShowShifter software has been developed specifically for home use to further empower the PC as a home entertainment device. Whilst other PC entertainment software packages use traditional desktop or 'lean forward' interfaces ShowShifter uses a distance-based or 'lean back', remote enabled interface allowing the PC to be just as convenient to use as traditional remote controlled home entertainment products, like a TV or VCR. Unlike other software ShowShifter provides access to all forms of home entertainment through a single interface. With ShowShifter the user doesn't need to return to their desktop to open and close applications when switching between DVD, TV and CDs etc, dramatically increasing the convenience factor.

    J.River Media Center - http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter
Music, photos, and video YOUR way -- all from a single software program! Connect your PC to your home entertainment hardware and control it all with a remote! Load your music on your iPod while you watch TV! All with one easy-to-use program -- MEDIA CENTER!

InterVideo Home Theater is your complete entertainment center! Get the most out of your multimedia content - TV, DVDs, Picture, Music, and Video - pause live TV, record a show, listen to your favorite song, import playlists, create a unique slideshow of photos and enjoy a DVD movie with theater-like sound. Experience all this & more from the comfort of your couch with the included remote control!

    Digital Theater Professional - http://www.binarymetal.com/dtpgeneral.html
Digital Theater Pro is an infinitely expandable and fully interactive automation and control interface - the most advanced program of its kind to date. Unlike traditional high-end control systems costing over $10,000 which only allow you control your off-the-shelf theater hardware, Digital Theater can interact directly with your theater hardware and computers- making Digital Theater the first solution to allow direct control over Home Theater Personal Computers (HTPCs).

    4am Media Console - http://www.overnighttech.com/products/4amMC_overview.html
What you need to customize your Home Theater Personal Computer (HTPC). This software will allow you to simplify the front end of your system, and allow you to get away from the boring and sometimes cryptic computer desktop look that is normally provided with the operating system. 4am Media Console now provides full support for both 4:3 and 16:9 ratio resolutions, allowing you to maximize the screen usage of your particular viewing device, whether it be a 4:3 computer screen, TV or webtablet PC or a 16:9 projector or plasma. (And no the 16:9 version is not a simple scaled version of the 4:3, it is reconfigured to setup without weird scaling effects.)

    MythTV - http://www.mythtv.org/
MythTV is a homebrew PVR project that I've been working on in my spare time. It's been under heavy development for over a year, and is now quite useable and featureful. edit it was requested that i also add knoppmyth to this guide, but, seeing as how knoppmyth is mythtv 'bundled' with an o/s. it is essentially mythtv. so rather then copy the mythtv info and rename it to knoppmyth, just check it out at http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html

Sonic Codec Pack (NOT FREE) - http://www.cineplayer.com/decoder
    Divx - http://www.divx.com
GSpot - http://www.headbands.com/gspot - "Provides information about MPEG1 or MPEG2 video and/or MPEG1 or MPEG2 audio either as "elementary" streams or multiplexed into an MPEG1 "system stream" or an MPEG2 "program stream". This includes hybrid variations (e.g. "MPEG2 video multiplexed with MPEG1 audio using MPEG1 system stream"), as these are not uncommon. Limited support for MPEG4 video when contained in an AVI stream, such as DivX5. The current version identifies presence or absence of "B-VOP", "Qpel", and "GMC", thus allowing the user to determine if a DivX5 file is compatible with KISS and other popular hardware DivX players. This information is not currently available from any other utility."

DScaler - http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net - "DScaler is a piece of software that captures video, processes it, and scales it for presentation on a projector or computer monitor. I found the list of video cards on TGB (The green button)
    http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=50&MessageID=70147

I also found the list of tuners for MCE (The green button)
    http://www.thegreenbutton.com/community/shwmessage.aspx?ForumID=50&MessageID=70205

This list is from the OEM part of the microsoft site. If you check the list of tuners the one in question is there.

Now i dont actually have access to the M$ OEM site but i am told this is reliable. That being said it actually says on the DVICO site that the drivers are in development go figure? http://www.divico.com/products_dvbt2.html

If your worried about those things then your system isn't up to spec, so don't bother.

The DVICO card works great in MCE2005.

I also use this EPG grabber that a guy from thegreenbutton has put together. It grabs 7 days of info and will stick it into MCEs' EPG. Fantastic!

Update: Version 2 has just been released, yay.
