    Hi there, in recent weeks when i boot up my laptop, i have had the Windows Search Indexer starting up and running, using around 10 to 15% of the CPU, and the system fan bellows away on and off during this time, this can go on for 5 minutes up to 20 minutes, and then it will stop, but during the day or night it might randomly happen again.

    I have applied some of the fixes that i found in google, and i have ended the task in task manager just to shut it up, but it just keeps doing it every day.

    After i have started the laptop and it loads, i open Veracrypt and mount my encrypted 2tb storage drive to access my files, i then launch my IceDrive desktop App to mount my Cloud Storage service that is sync'd to that 2tb storage drive.

    Can anyone recommend a fix for this, or do i need to suffer with it every single day.

    Cheers

    Ahh ok got it, so is it ok to Disable it completely, like i just got home and turned my laptop on and it started doing it for 15 minutes, then it stopped, now after 15 minutes it started again, and the system fan is going crazy.

    its ok to disable it im sure, maybe cause searching in emails etc to stop
    but you can re-enable it if you feel needed

    There's no consequence to disabling it, it just won't index any results when you do initiate a search.

    You could modify indexing options which will may reduce the load on the indexer;

    Press Windows + S and type "indexing options."

    Click on "modify" and uncheck any folders you don't need indexed.

    Click "Ok" to save .

    There is also a search and indexing troubleshooter you can run;

    Go to settings > update & security > troubleshoot

    Select "search and indexing" and follow the on-screen instructions.

    You could try rebuilding the index as well, which can help resolve issues with it;

    In the Indexing Options window, click on "advanced" and then "rebuild".

    It may be an idea to also run system file checker (SFC) and DISM just to make sure everything is functioning properly with system files and Windoze;

    Open CMD as an admin

    Enter sfc /scannow and run that

    After that completes, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

    "Everything"
    https://www.voidtools.com/en-au/

    Is a billion times faster within seconds of installing with no noticeable indexing service.

    I'm certainly not aware of how it could index tens of terabytes within seconds.
    Frankly, it seems like magic compared to MSs shitty indexing service.

    I disabled my Windows Indexing last night, as i was suggested further up the page, today i turn the laptop on and it has reset itself, running at 10 to 15% for half an hour, i disabled it again just now, and it stopped.

    EDIT: Now it has reset itself and it just started running again ???????

    Are you sure you're not just stopping it?

    Cmd:
    Sc disable wsearch

    Should do it

    Ironically i have IceDrive as my Cloud Storage service which i mount as a partition in Windows using their Web App, and every now and then "IceMon" start running in the background, usually using around 3 or 4% CPU usage, sometimes spiking at 8%, so when that Windows Search was running with IceMon, the CPU could be at around 18 to 20%, and i don't even run the IceDrive real time sync feature any more because it has been plagued with issues since they did a major build update a few months ago, i just run a manual Sync instead.

    At least with IceMon the system fan does not ramp up like it was with the Windows search thing running.
