    Hi all
How can I do an auto windows update using firefox not IE7.
I have contracted a virus and it has taken over explorer, and IE.
WHan i use explorer to navigate my way through my directories, I keep being redirected to a site:

    http://sc.videofreeforonline.com/id/4912933/4/1/

NOD 32 cant get rid of it.
    SOPHOS I cant even install
Malware removal I cant even install (I think because of NOD32).
The windows malicious software removal tool removed 1 trojan.

Any assistance on how I can get rid of this very annoying thing will be most appreciated.

I have XPpro SP2 and all updates for this.

Yes I have seen your suggestion thank you and have carried that out.
I guess I will have to upgrade to SP3 and install all of its updates too.
    I will try www.malwarebytes.org
I have installed Windows defender which is now scanning.

    thanks

Putting on updates won't remove it. Get a decent virus scanner and have that remove it. You tried NOD32, so try Avast, AVG and the other standards.

    Alternatively, back up and reformat.

Try other AV tools first, once you have detected the virus use symantec.com to get a removal tool for it.

I'd remove all instances of it and then back up and reinstall a fresh Windows. :Paranoid:

he had malware & trojans. A virus scanner is probably not going to pick it up no matter how many of them you try.

You will need to install IETab first, the magical Firefox extension that lets you open a web page with Internet Explorer within Firefox in a couple of clicks.

Once it is installed, you will need to replace the Windows Update shortcut in the All Programs menu. To do this:

    * Press Start. Select All Programs.

    * Right-click on Windows Update menu item and select Properties.

    * In the properties window, enter "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" "http://update.microsoft.com" in the Target field. Make sure you enter the correct path for your Firefox install and if the path contains any blank space, enclose the path in double quotes.
