I'm not seeing much on the intertubes as yet

    3123862 has a fairly vague description - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3123862

DotNet 4.6.1 shouldn't be installed on Exchange Servers

http://www.patchchart.com is normally pretty good at identifying issues, It's a quick summary of stuff raised on the patchmanagement.org mailing list and other places.

That's exactly what I did months ago. Removed all permissions including system.

Handy trick for other malware and viruses too. You can effectively quarantine them indefinitely.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3114717

Update 3114717 is no longer available because it causes Microsoft Office 2013 apps, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook, to slow down or freeze. If you’ve installed this update and you're experiencing these issues, you can safely remove the update.

Hmm, wondering if that is responsible for Outlook using a processor heavily in bursts for me...

Could be worse... If they were Apple, they wouldn't have pulled it, and would simply have suggested those finding their old product slow should purchase a newer one :D

Think the indexer/search triggered a full rebuild. Has settled down now...

I just uninstalled it - was still getting high CPU on outlook.exe after the indexing was finished. Did a check for updates and it didn't pop up the 2nd time around, so not sure about it's availability now.

Changes your default application associations e.g. From Chrome back to IE.
It also removes RSAT and a few other bits and pieces.

There is a hotfix out (although my googlefu is failing me) that fixes this issue iirc.

You can also get installation media with TH2/1511 integrated for future deployments, which would avoid this issue entirely.
