Seems like everyones making these atm, so i thought i'd do it too!

Currently in the process of attempting to construct a usable guitar! Well hopefully its usable! I've had most of the parts for a while now but i wanted to finish off my RG570 project first (just waiting for decent weather to paint!). Fortunately i have most of the tools required myself already and have access to a bandsaw etc within 5 mins of me .

The plan was originally to copy a RG style 7 string, the only change being a EBMM style headstock. The body will probably end up a little more rounded too. Maybe somewhere in the middle of a RG and S series guitar.

    Here's the specs:
    Body - Solid Mahogany.
Neck - 1pce Queensland Maple with AANJ.
    Fretboard - Rosewood, 16" radius.
Inlay - 4mm dots at top edge.
Tuners - 5+2 Schaller locking tuners.
    Nut - Graphtech
    Frets - 24 Jumbo.
Bridge - Fixed string through guitar.
    Pickups - Undecided.
Electrics - 3 way toggle, 1 vol and 1 tone.
    Finish - Undecided.

Not sure what to do with the pickups. I'm leaning towards a D-Sonic in the bridge but not sure what to do with the neck. I LOVE the Air Norton in the neck but i fear it will be way too muddy with the mahogany body. Also i'll probably route out space for a potential piezo upgrade later on if the guitar turns out worthy.

Here's a little picture of the main ingredients!

Should be a fun, yet frustrating project. Hopefully mostly fun!

Could take weeks, or months depending on how much time i'm able to put into it.

Feel free to post any questions and comments. I'll update as any progress is made (unless my camera shits itself over which i think it might!).

It's going to be awesome by the sounds of it.

But it could be a little bit more awesome...

Why are you using maple for the neck?

Haha you certainly love those V's. Can't say i'm a fan myself. I just couldn't get comfortable with that epiphone i bought off you.

Yeh the QLD Maple looks beautiful. Should sound great too.

Still waiting on the bloody nut and bridge to arrive and then she's gonna get underway. Finally!

    Just a little update.

Got out the paper and pencil this arvo and whipped up a full size drawing of what she'll look like. It's not perfect by any means, just a decent enough sketch.

Might try and do some cutting tomorrow

The bottom horn looks a little too pointy, should be similar to the top horn.

Might start working with my new LP, maybe a double cut? Got some QLD maple that has been sitting here for months for the neck, might order some for the body too from ALS.

Yeh it was just a rough sketch of the body. I've just traced my other RG body so it's all looking good.

I've got tomorrow off work so hopefully i can make some decent progress. Still waiting on a few things in the mail too.

I thought by destroyer you meant the ibanez exlorer rip off.

Still, should be interesting to see the out come and a great experience along the way.

The battery on my camera has shat itself and doesnt hold charge long enough to take a single photo, so hopefully i can get a new battery or a new camera and get some new pics up

    Finally, an update!

Put in a full days work today. Mainly on the tele body. So buggered from sanding thats for sure! Didn't get a pic of the 7 string body because it wasn't in the same room and couldn't be bothered walking too far lol.

Tele body - Half of it is hollowed out so far... Not looking forward to the other half!

7 string neck - Fingerboard done, neck ready to be routed for the truss rod, ears added and then cut to size. It's all coming along slowly lol :p

I liked the idea of a rosewood headstock, but now i think i might just paint over it lol. We'll see.

Yeh, i change my mind all the time. I guess its all down to how i feel on the day.

Oops! Just realised i routed the neck cavity before i put the top on. Better fill her up tomorrow hahaha.

Don't fill it, most people route before gluing the top in. Just use a bit with a bottom bearing to route the top!

I thought about that but the pocked will be too deep? I'm using a 1/4" top so maybe i should just add a little to the neck?

Yes, add a little to the neck.

Also, where did you get your timbers from and what were the prices?

Got it free since i was labouring for a builder a short while ago. Basically any offcuts went to workers or in the bin. I only took enough for once guitar because i didn't think I'd get hooked in, which i have! Kind of annoyed at myself now for obvious reasons :p

I bought the mahogany from Gilet guitars though. I think that was them anyway. $89.
