Seems like everyones making these atm, so i thought i'd do it too! Currently in the process of attempting to construct a usable guitar! Well hopefully its usable! I've had most of the parts for a while now but i wanted to finish off my RG570 project first (just waiting for decent weather to paint!). Fortunately i have most of the tools required myself already and have access to a bandsaw etc within 5 mins of me . The plan was originally to copy a RG style 7 string, the only change being a EBMM style headstock. The body will probably end up a little more rounded too. Maybe somewhere in the middle of a RG and S series guitar. Here's the specs: Body - Solid Mahogany. Neck - 1pce Queensland Maple with AANJ. Fretboard - Rosewood, 16" radius. Inlay - 4mm dots at top edge. Tuners - 5+2 Schaller locking tuners. Nut - Graphtech Frets - 24 Jumbo. Bridge - Fixed string through guitar. Pickups - Undecided. Electrics - 3 way toggle, 1 vol and 1 tone. Finish - Undecided. Not sure what to do with the pickups. I'm leaning towards a D-Sonic in the bridge but not sure what to do with the neck. I LOVE the Air Norton in the neck but i fear it will be way too muddy with the mahogany body. Also i'll probably route out space for a potential piezo upgrade later on if the guitar turns out worthy. Here's a little picture of the main ingredients! Should be a fun, yet frustrating project. Hopefully mostly fun! Could take weeks, or months depending on how much time i'm able to put into it. Feel free to post any questions and comments. I'll update as any progress is made (unless my camera shits itself over which i think it might!).
