I agree - I think any nostalgia anyone (lol) has for Cata will be lost very quickly on release. I think people will stick with SoD / move over to it (especially with the xp boosts).

Cata definitely won't retain the same player base as Classic/Classic WotLK - it'll be the tighter hardcore raiders, and some PvP freaks. Not much else :\

So, er, the Cata pre-patch has been released, and it's safe to say that there's a few issues

    #authenticexperience
    #nochanges

Unless you're a crazy person who loves playing with no guild chat (seriously) and a bunch of fucked add-ons, I might just wait a few days

Yeah, cata was the beginning of the end.... the original world destroyed, so all nostalgia is gone....

Classic should just be classic plus and release new level 60 content in the same world that is naxx or under equivalent.

Put in all the stuff that was supposed to be there that wasn't complete upon release in 04

I was enjoying SoD and playing with some friends (who still game, all my original gaming friends dont really have the time anymore.. nor do I but I was advised I need to do something to occupy my brain so I dont work all the time.

I think it was done pretty well up until this latest phase. The launch weekend I had to go away for work and then I had a few busy weeks and it's like a ghosttown now. I finally got one of my chars up to 50 and im like cool cool.. do I just wait for the next phase then?

I understand its to be a 'Season' but also hate the idea that you pour this time into it for it to just end.. kind of like that feeling when you first quit wow and you look at what you have done on those characters over years and its just like OK K BAI.

Anyone still dabbling in retail and SoD? I know a lot of people seem to just switch straight over to whatever the new release is.. max it out and move on but really this is something I have always hated in games.

It seems most people aren't super happy (or, at least, say it's just "ok") with this phase (3) of SoD - BiS gear was a bit too easy to get, there wasn't a big enough level jump from p2-p3 (and therefore not a huge amount of talents), Nightmare Incursions were a fuckfest on release, etcetc.
It's the nature of the beast nowadays; consume content until there's nothing left, and then move onto the other options (Retail, Cata Classic, Hardcore, whatever).
The only alternative is to go back to the old hardcore Vanilla days of grinding for xp / slam your nuts into a door over and over again with overtuned raids / pray your class or spec was the flavour of the month for PvP.

At least there's options instead of just waiting for new patches, I guess.

p.s. The Pandaria Remix will go live at Friday, 3:00am AEST. (Don't worry, no bullshit Realm Firsts this time)

This isn't a separate realm (like Classic/SoD/etc), or a "zone-but-not-really" (like Plunderstorm) --- this is essentially a "new-but-old-but-separate" continent for new characters, with a lot of "no existing cross-character interaction, unless it's a new panda-remix character, then it's fine, but everything will still be account wide anyway eventually, and also actually now, sort of".

In other words; there's a lot of things that have already broken in 10.2.7 retail, and don't be surprised if even more shit breaks when Panda Remix is actually live. (in both retail and remix)

As for how long it's live for - there's no actual confirmation, but the in-game calendar in the TWW Alpha (and therefore not exact) says August 19th - giving Panda Remix about a lifespan of ~90 days - which should be more than enough time.

    Also, LAG!!!!

No Aussie servers for hardcore wow.... So yeah i've died a couple times due to ping...

Not sure why they doing another full fresh server restart, since they're doing nothing to help with banning bots that stuff up the economy in the first place.

Maybe just another BS thing that they doing with the streamers to try hook alot more players.

They need seasons, perhaps yearly. Doubt it will combat bots and gold buying. Nothing ever does.

On a brighter note, enjoying Firelands. Our band of misfits are sitting at 2/7heroic so far this week. Nothing extraordinary, but enjoyable for a bunch of old farts with kids and hectic work life

WoW Classic Refresh - November 22, 2024 at 9:00 AM AEST (November 21, 2024 at 2:00 PM PST)
    https://www.wowhead.com/classic/guide/fresh-servers-roadmap-phases
    Best bits.
    • LFG added kind of
    • Bigger Realms
    • Population balancing (55% - 45% limits)
    • Finally, character transfers among the new realms will be locked between Normal and PvP realms. The only character transfers allowed is from Hardcore (living or dead) to non-Hardcore PvE or PvP realms.
    • Dual Spec coming
So who's doing a WoW refresh? Lets hope they do a refresh classic server every 12-18 months.

It's still laughable that they haven't done Classic+ yet. More content all the way from 1-60, more raids, etc. Expecting people to do the same loop over and over and over is just tedious.

If Intel bought them then you could even have Classic++++.

So much information and I am having trouble simplyfing it -
I was bored and no new games were taking my fancy and as a reformed wow tragic I decided to go check WOW out again - i didn't really want retail as I feel like I have missed too much and I really just want something as a time sink - So loaded up classic got started a Horde as was previously mostly Alliance and got to about level 14 and went oh thats right its a grind - So I started on Cataclysm and Oceanic server got to 14 and found it dead as dead can be - So started again on a US server now level 50 - i have been purposefully questing areas I wouldn't have traditionally quested and have found it interesting - I just have some questions if some one can help -

So in the Cataclysm version there appears to be classic and Wrath of the lich King but cant find anything for Burning Crusade - Of course Cataclysm is there - So is the game just a re release in order and should Burning Crusade be there and I am missing something?

    Cata Classic contains the following zones;

Old World Remake (Eastern Kingdoms / Kalimdor, aka everything pre-TBC)
TBC zones (no real changes, still accessible - go find the Dark Portal / take a mage port to Shattrath.)
WotLK zones (no real changes, still accessible - take a ship to Northrend)
Cata content/zones/raids (actual new content, not a remake of old zones, mostly)

    ---

    All of the EK/Kalimdor zones were remade, so they aren't accessible. However, if you feel the need to experience this content (everything pre TBC), you can;

    - Play the original WoW Classic (listed as "Classic Era" realms). When TBC Classic came along, Blizz decided to leave some realms as WoW Classic, and the rest to go forward as TBC Classic (and then to WotLK Classic, and now to Cata Classic, and soon to MoP Classic). Be warned - these original Classic Era realms are pretty much dead. There are some Hardcore flavour realms too.
    - Play the 20th Anniversary Edition realms (listed as Anniversary). These are the same type of servers as the Classic Era realms, just with a faster patch cadence/a few more QoL changes. I think it's still in Phase 1 or 2? (Only Onyxia / Molten Core are available?). Luckily, these are much more alive, and have Hardcore as well.

    - Unlike Classic Era realms, there are no pure TBC servers, or pure WotLK servers. I'm 99% sure there will be a 20th Anniversary Edition TBC Realm one day, and a 20th Anniversary Edition WotLK realm eventually (and so on and so on), but I doubt they will remain as pure servers - they will eventually transition to the next expansion.

    - For extra fun, you can try Season of Discovery. It's weird and fun, but don't expect a Classic experience.
