I am considering 3 motherboards atm

    https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/ROG-Crosshair-VIII-Hero-WI-FI/
    https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRESTIGE-X570-CREATION
    https://www.gigabyte.com/au/Motherboard/X570-AORUS-MASTER-rev-10#kf

My preference for many years now has been for Asus. The bios is easy, updated regularly and I am yet to have an issue. This time though I would have preferred (not critical) 3 M2 slots. The Gigabyte has 3 and the MSI has 4 (with the add in card)

The MSI is at the very top of what I want to spend. There would need to be hugely compelling reasons to go higher.

However gigabyte bios is supposedly shit. It is that bad? How does MSI bios compare? How are both these companies with bios updates compared to Asus

    Any other suggestions?

I will probably pick up a 3800x or a 3900x for now and grab a 3950x when they hit

I am yet to see any motherboard reviews other than Buildzoids so if anyone has read any in relation to these 3 please let me know.

    Thanks for looking

Subbed. I am also interested in what motherboards to pair with a 3800X/3900X. Been with ASRock previously, so looking at one of their boards.

I too like crosshai4. If it had 3 M2 slots then the decision would be easy.

Do you need to watercool the Crosshair Formula vrm's with the supllied blocks or is that just an added benefit and they will cool passively anyway

Nevermind - found the answer on OC3D - they will passivley kool.

I have used a number of different asus, asrock and gigabyte boards. Not to mention countless other boards through my 30 something years as a PC builder.

While Gigabyte may not be the most user friendly of the three, it certainly is order of magnitude better than the boards of the past. I have a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 board, and am very happy with it.

Is it actually a viable option to run three m.2 slots at once on these boards?

I only bring it up as I have an Asus Crosshair VI Extreme, it has two m.2 slots, but I'f I use the second one, the 16x PCIe slot reverts back to 8x.
