Seems I have been a noob for some time and not thought to check but my PCI-E mode for my system (in sig).

I have been running PCI-E 2.0.. and its not until I done this that it now runs at 3.0..

I don't expect massive gains but some games might jump up a few frames..

So other people with x79 with Intel CPU/Nvidia GPU check your speeds.. (can do via GPU-Z or Nvidia control panel>help>System Information)

Apparently this doesn't happen for AMD setups of the same generation or newer chipsets.

Not sure if there is anyone else here as nooby as me though

Don't forget to do it every time you update your driver

You probably won't notice much of a difference at 1080p but it seems to make a big difference at very high resolutions where you really need the bandwidth.

I am at 2k 144hz and not sure if was recent patch in bf1 but I didn't see under 100fps where I used to see dips to 70s. That was just the one map but I'll keep eye on it.

I'm betting its more because he's running quad SLI with 16x8x8x8x that he's posting a substantial difference.

8x PCIe 2.0 is equivalent bandwidth to 4x PCIe 3.0. We've seen enough comparisons of PCIe1v2v3 over the years to know that it makes very little difference in most cases.

Yup @ 1440p 144hz I might see at best 5-10fps in some games, 0 in others.
