A bit worried about that manky bowl. Some sort of crucible that came with a big box game?

Haha, I learned this lesson years ago. I never open stuff in front of the kids. They get way too excited.

Me walking in the house with anything that looks vaguely "purchased" = Missus not happy.

Why not? Surely she should be happy that you're happy?

My wife and I have very different hobbies. I support hers, she supports mine, because we both know it brings the other joy. Why live a miserable life, and force others to give up on their hobbies and be miserable too?

Yeah I don't get that - my wife draws the line at pretending to be interested in my beige boxes but she doesn't begrudge me my interests. I'd go postal eventually if she did

Same here. My wife has her scrapbooking and I have my retro computers/games. We also don't have a joint bank account to draw from so there is no fuss about one half spending "our" money on something the other half thinks is a waste. Whatever is left over after bills and other expenses is our own money to spend however we want.

Honestly wouldn't have it any other way.

mine knows that my hobby is what keeps me happy and something i've always done - and in the mix of hobbies there are collecting retro crap is far cheaper than a lot of hobbies out there (think cars, fishing, etc.).

My wife has said many times she'd rather a nerdy at-home hobby than me having an affair. Can't fault that logic.

:(. ... Lol. Wait , is fishing expensive?

Yeah my missus doesn't get the whole race car thing nor the retro gaming thing, but she knows that that keeps my head level and grounded and she knows that I do love it, that's good enough for her.
That's not to say she doesn't get the shits every now and then when considerable cash goes out the front door on shit when huge boxes of racing bits turn up but she's ok with it.

My brother just had his mid life crisis, dumped his missus for a hostie with legs that go all the way ... You get the picture, she's like 20 years younger.. and his kids .. what a stupid dumbass... Now he's come to the conclusion that he misses his wife and kids.... Fuck,. I'll take cars and gaming anyday over the mess he's in. :wired: (helps that my missus has those legs too :D)

fishing requires big ass 4wd, all the associated shit that goes with that, a boat etc - way more expensive than old computer shit.

Maybe up North, but down here the wife and I get away with her compact SUV and a couple of $150 rod and reel combos. Yes, you read that correctly, my wife likes fishing

i'm talking about as a serious hobby though. just to give a bit of perspective. ppl spend more on single item purchases like a boat than i'd spend in 10 years retro-collecting.

your fishing hobby could compare to a retro collector who owns one system and never buys anything for it because they are happy playing SMB3 until the end of time.

Yeah, I see your point, I do have a few mates who are well into it, but that is literally all they do in their spare time. I have a multitude of hobbies, so I have to weight them ;)

I've been trying to find a basic 4 channel stereo mixer that isn't bloated with pro features I won't use. It has been surprisingly impossible to find anything that ticks the boxes. Then today on ebay, something did.

Considering this guy's job is to mix down audio from two beige PCs and two Roland MIDI modules... I am absolutely beside myself.

Got delivery of another 100 capcom tokens!

Now I can split this up across a couple cabs.

I can finally swap over the ¥100 coins over to these :)
