I've always wanted one of these iMac G3! Managed to pick up a full working one with keyboard and mouse for $20 off Facebook Marketplace!

I have one of these set aside for a project. Non-destructive/reversible mod, and the plan is to get a RPi working in it and controlling the CRT via the I2C commands needed. I've seen people do it with an Arduino, but I'm hoping the Pi can pull it off.

I really want a nice, small and semi portable DOS playing system with CRT. If that fails, I'll build one with a 17" CRT I have lying around. Maybe fashion it to look like a terminal from the Fallout games or something.

Hmm being that's it's only 9 years old, doesn't qualify for this part of the forum. .. hmm okay delete that, on the same purchase, I re-bought Diablo, ToEE and a bunch of others too lol

i don't think usage would really change the aging of caps very much. Your 1st job is a recap at any rate!

i would at the very least inspect them regularly for signs of failure, and keep an eye (ear) out for audio problems. But yeah they really should be replaced.

I need to do mine. I am thinking of the screen upgrade and replacing the cold cathode as well.

The 8 bit guy just reviewed one. He loved it and rated it highly over the origional c64 mini. A real keyboard, a better joystick with micro switches and weights, more USB ports seems to have made this arguably the best "rebirthing" of a retro product. Its actually a great stand alone product. They even pretty much solved the lag video/sound issue. While not perfect, its pretty good. Decent games selection out of the box too.

Tells us how you found it. I am tempted, but I already have a fair amount of c64..

I watched that review. I know it's modern electronics and all but it was the weirdest sight seeing a C64 opened up and there being barely anything inside.
