No I think you have your 3Dfx chips mixed up. The Voodoo Rush came out in 1997 using the original Voodoo 1 chipset combined with a 2D chipset. From wiki:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3dfx_Interactive

The card your thinking of which was based off the Voodoo 2 is the Banshee released at the end of 1998:

    Also see here: http://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/cpu/item/2-3dfx-voodoo-rush

Your card is the A-Trend VD110P UQ Voodoo Rush as shown on that site. As you can see most are using the Alliance chip so the Voodoo Rush's with the Macronix chip are rare so it's a good score.

does anyone have experience with mixing SIMM and DIMM modules on Pentium motherboards?

I checked the manual and its not really clear , it says :

the bit under Note under the table says not to install EDO memory if you already have SDRAM populated.

however, then later it says I can mix modules? eg option 5

    confusing

Yep, wrestled with this recently: https://forums.overclockers.com.au/...et-up-to-today.1116809/page-239#post-18388642

Similar caveats on my mobo, and similar terrible wording in the manual:

    J-656VXB RAM info.PNG

Essentially, you can combine SIMM & DIMM modules but if you do, you can only use two of the four SIMM slots. I ran like this for a while until it stopped liking my DIMM stick, so I went back to just using four SIMMs.

Experiment away, I say. Worst that should be able to happen is it won't POST if it doesn't like the config.

ok thank you, wasnt sure if I can experiment as some googling showed frying mem modules. Basically the SIMM I have is 32MB and I have 4 x 16MB EDO sticks so will go with those. 64MB in 1996 would have been ridiculous considering most PCs had 8MB ram. Smartdrive here I come! haha

Just to cover my arse here - any experiment should involve not using the first two SIMM slots if you're using a DIMM. But it sounds like you have that part sussed.

Picked up this guy for free today, a little broken but got one of the broken pieces, perhaps can glue it back on but unfortunately my so called universal charger doesn't have a suitable plug for it so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it now...

Make sure to take the NiCD backup battery out from under the keyboard, all these Satellites & Tecras had a multi-cell NiMH backup battery.

16 hour day yesterday. Probably the same for the rest of the week. Working weekends too.

I'm getting pretty envious of everyone playing in lockdown. :(

I'm on annual leave for 4 weeks after Friday, I will be unemployed after that.

I have a job informally lined up but it might not eventuate now.

The timing of my decision to jump ship will either be great or terrible...

Yes turbulent times. I'm able to work from home and am working my buns off - kids home from school, etc - but feeling extremely lucky to have stable work. All the best WuZMot

cheers mate, I'm single and frugal + mortgage interest rate is great - If I qualify to pull 10-20K from my Super at some point I'll jump at the opportunity.

Sorry guys I'll take this covid/economy shit back to serious discussion. Someone post some gear pics to get this back on track!

Scraping the barrel for content, but it's retro: Picked up this ex-Commonwealth Bank blacklight at Salvos for a tenner the other week. Not sure why, I just thought it was cool.
