I had to do a Wollongong run today, to take groceries to some isolating family. So I took the opportunity to go a bit further to Dapto and pick up a thing I'd been eyeing. Seller pics:

    ASUS M2A-VM HDMI
    Athlon 64 X2 5000 (I think)
    4GB RAM
Case is an Apevia X-QPack - bit of a poor man's Shuttle but it has some nice features: https://bit-tech.net/reviews/tech/cases/Apevia_X_Qpack/1/

This will be my XP build when I get to it. Hopefully there's room to swap out that HDMI expansion card for my GTX275. It'll probably need a better PSU, SSD, and I'll put the Audigy in there. It should look great paired with a Dell 2007FP, and some nice black or silver periphs.

Picked up some Dell Harman Kardon pc speakers yesterday like these
    s-l1600.jpg (fleabay image)

Now I have some sound when I'm working from home :)

They have a faint high-pitched squeal so adding them to the ever-growing list of things to look at. :upset:
Probably some drying out caps, but would like to put a signal generator and cro on them.

I remember having those on our Dell WinME PC. They hung around for a lot longer than the PC did, and only kicked the bucket a few years back. Wonder if they're still in a cupboard at the old man's.

Very good friend of mine worked at that government department when that PC would've been new - he is absolutely astounded that it is still around, since all their decommissioned machines were "squashed" back in the day. Nice pickup, you'll never find one of those specific "2000 compliant" stickers again if they've all been destroyed.

Figured I'd pass by the Green Shed while picking up some other things nearby.

As you'd expect, this time of year usually yields some interesting things as people have their annual purge. The speaker shelf seems to have a bit more substance to it than usual!
    Spotted two CRT's too!

Few intact P4's, and a ATI Rage 128 Ultra AGP card sitting alone. Decided against taking it with me.

Though I spotted this - couldn't say no! Is tangenically related to retro computing on a few levels.
Given the only CD player attached to a decent stereo system is in my car, it'll live in the glovebox :)

Last week, I obtained a few very rare, very good condition ps1/2 titles.
This was a siblings collection they finally parted with, trading it for some items they find more practical (a n64 unit with multicart, some new shoes and cash)

I looked for a few years Individually from ebay for some of these (like the ps1 marvel games) and the price was astronomical. So I consider it a pretty fair trade :)

Is that what you call a few? That is larger than my collection of PS1,2&3 titles put together. I have a handful of those PS1 games. Which ones are rare?

I don't know about Capcom PS1 titles but I know from personal experience that Final Fantasy Origins isn't cheap.
I think black label releases of the original Resident Evil games can fetch a fairly high price too.

Lol yeah by my standard it's a small trade

hutts24, these didnt put a dent/make any visual difference to my gaming shelves.
some res evil, final fantasy and the marvel / street fighters

Yeah for sure, it's quite a well curated selection of titles, me and my brother both know the value of the trade was in my favor, even tho i gave a few hundred cash on top, those games sell individually for alot. but I have no intention of flipping of course :)

thanks to this thread, it inspired me to hunt out some unopened ps2 games from back when i bought cool shit. Turns out 2 of them are worth about 150 each - shame they are PAL versions tho - as one of the NTSC versions goes for 1200 factory sealed

Still, i should sell them on

Following up this post, my SL27J 200MMX arrived from Russia today. Seller was soviet.raritet, and it's in great condition.

    upload_2022-1-14_17-21-9.png

BuuBox had also egged me on to try out a K6-2 400 in this board, and then kindly traded me one. So that'll be the next test.

    upload_2022-1-14_17-32-46.png

I also wanted to add a Cyrix test into the mix, but if the K6 goes well (if so, it will deliver twice the clockspeed I thought I could get on this board) I think I'll leave it at that.

Not a success so far, and I've probably pushed my luck as far as I'm willing to. I realised when I started locating jumpers that my mobo is slightly different to the manual. It lacks J11, 12, 13 (bottom left of heatsink) which set the I/O voltage. In fact I can't find a photo of this board online that has them, so I'm not sure what the manual is smoking.

    upload_2022-1-14_23-44-39.png upload_2022-1-14_23-45-12.png

Case is open though, so suck it and see right? I set the Vcore and it booted up. The CPU reported as an 80486DX-S 66mhz, an indication that a BIOS update might be needed according to this conversation. But I don't think there is one out there; according to the Ultimate Retro guys on Vogons, I am already running the latest known BIOS for this board. I fired up HWINFO for DOS to see what it said, but the system hung as it was inspecting. I then very cleverly put two fingertips on that heatsink, which resulted in me having to dab a little burn gel on. Ouch!

So out with the K6, and assuming it's still ok it can sit tight for another system. The good news is the 200MMX works fine.

May have noticed I got rid of some S478 boards recently - only to make room for new ones!

Specifically a P4C800 (possibly a deluxe? I can't remember the difference), and a P4P800 that was lying around.
Both need a recap by the look. But that's okay - the P4C800 deluxe is the first mobo I bought with my own money (rather than parents buying a computer) - so glad to have one again.

And the GPU is a very tired and crapped out 9800XT. It too, evidently, needs some love. I'll have to find an Artic Cooling Blower for it. Again, first (decent) video card I bought myself back (almost) 20 years ago.

Swapped a case of beer for it (and got some other things, like my 7th Antec 300/300 two)

that series, if it was a Deluxe (or a -E) it would be written on the board or label.

Right - then a boring old P4C800 then. I had the P4C800E deluxe - mmm close enough

edit: differences are well documented, none of which are of any concern to me haha
