I'm sure AMD wouldn't mind you buying an instock 8 core processor Daryl ;)

For my usage scenarios, I need the higher clock speeds.

But AMD is getting more attractive and with Intel playing around they do. I feel AMD is going to take market share and will hold it for some time.

They already have at some retailers.

Not sure how scared Intel would be but time will tell. More cores = attractive to most people I'm guessing, even if the clock is lower. Not like 4.3Ghz single core clock is going to bottleneck current GPUs.

We're starting to see a few games, not many, but a few that benefit significantly from adding more cores. But I think even if AMD comes up with a CPU that can beat the 9900k, whether its the same price or a bit cheaper, that's not going to happen for months yet. If buying today, there's very little choice for the very top of the line.

I think most consumers are looking for bang for buck though. Enthusiasts will hit the $900 9990k with no cooler, but the broad stroke of gamers will hit a 8c/16t 4.3ghz CPU for $470 with a cooler. I find it hard to think I'll swap camps to AMD next purchase but.. they're proving a major point and they seem fine.

Yep very true and AMD have stepped up pretty well with Ryzen. I think AMD are going to have a bit of a boom for a short while when they get their next die shrink done, they might not have the top gaming CPU but they will dominate the bang-for-buck space until Intel gets their act in order and comes up with a decent die shrink of their own. At least that's how I understand it.

one of the few e-tailers that makes a pretty sales chart. but i expect that the 9th gen will have significant impact on putting intel desktop sku's further into the lead. all over the shop.

Hrm but theres been so much movement since July. I'd think the 2700x has made major dents and the 1600 is no longer for sale.
