Der Baur's delidding review was really interesting. Lapping 0.2mm from the die to get better thermal transfer seems a pretty bloody extreme move. And he couldn't seem to work out why Intel made the die was twice as thick as the 8xxx series. The transfer of the heat through the silicon seems to be one of the major limiting factors in cooling this CPU.

Ok, main one im worried about is from cold i get 1-3 reboot loops before i see the bios splashback screen, so basically hit power, fans spin and lights turn on briefly for about 1 -2 second, everything stop and goes again.
I had an old PC that did the same thing im talking 8+ years ago, never figured out what it was and it never "died".

On the very first power up it cycled maybe 5 times but as the days go by it seems like it only does it once now. Read something about "memory training" but thats on AMD i believe

I have tried memory timings on auto and also XMP. Might actually manually set them this afternoon.
    Any ideas?

my system (z370 gaming 7 ) does this cycle after you reset the bios or set a bad overclock -- but once set and saved with working settings it turns straight on and boots up.

there might be a config problem or a setting is off maybe to do with teh fast boot settings

have you set the board to defaults saved and exited and seen what happens?

Keep us posted. I was considering grabbing one of these until the 9900K drops in price.

Did you get any customs/import costs?

Also, congrats on possibly being the only person in Australia to have a 9900k. It might even be the only 9900k in the Southern Hemisphere.

Nope, no import charges, everything was super smooth & easy. Cost me $969 AUD inc shipping, with a free copy of Black Ops 4 and a few other things, so really the price is not higher than retail & paying for freight locally.

Did you rob a bloody bank?! How on earth did you get 1 let alone 2 2080 Ti's?

I'm happy to wait another few weeks for my 9900K considering the CPU I have now is totally fine.

It is just a 8600K with a higher boost clock and it is soldered, I have not tried to overclock it but so far this is my finding and IMC quality is about the same.

So if the 9900K is now priced around the same area as a 7820X I'm left wondering which is best to get? a slightly faster 9th gen system or a fully featured S2066 one if you disregard another one or two hundred dollars extra in cost for the S2066 board?

I would wait the SKL-X Refresh and see how they are priced since every SKU will feature 44 pcie lanes which makes 7820X even less impressive. If you do not have the budget to get a kit of quality quad channel bdie memory kit for X299 just stick with Z390.

The gap between a base X299 board (which always full featured anyhow) and a mid range Z390 board is basically nil.

However there is not really an option anymore to go new 7820X.

Retail stores around Australia are out of stock/EOL/no ETA.

Newegg has stock but at $1300 plus taxes, etc.. :Paranoid:

I'm doing the same but I am waiting on 9700K, I think this is the best gaming cpu when it drops to $580ish but $660 is a rip
