Some reporters state the CPU temp and some state temp above ambient. The ones with a high delta may have a low ambient.

Has anyone even received their 9900k yet?

Has anyone heard of anyone receiving their 9900k yet?

Has anyone heard someone getting a definite ETA on receiving their 9900k yet?

In Australia? No (apart from AMD180).

Worldwide? Overclockers UK sent some out and a few stores in Canada seem to have sold/shipped them.

In Australia? The only shop that seems to have any date on their page is IJK which says 10 November.

I'm mightily impressed. It seems the performance crown is firmly back in Intel's hand. Waiting a few months until prices for 9900K + Z390 are coming down.

According to Intel (select Australia from the drop down list), there are only three authorized Australian distributors for Client processors (these new CPUs fall under that category):

Ingram Micro, Mouser Electronics & Synnex Australia.

Through my line of work I have log in access for Ingram & Synnex.

What surprises me is that there is still zero listing for the new Coffee Lake 2 range.. :Paranoid:

No idea as to how retail stores provide ETAs when the official distributors do not have any listing for i9-9900k, etc..

Pure performance yes, but what about performance per dollar?

If that's all that matters it's best to stick with Pentiums and Athlons, they have by far the highest performance per dollar

Yes, very clever. I didn't say it was all that matters. It's an interesting toe-to-toe between AMD and Intel at the moment, with new Threadrippers coming out soon. As chainbolt noted Intel seem to have the pure performance crown at the moment but it's great that enthusiasts have another realistic option to consider.

Some interesting figures on Coffee lake refresh CPU and its IMC quality from MSI (Use google translator): https://gigglehd.com/gg/review/3700756

Looking at those figures people should stick with their existing 8700K or 8086K with strong IMC if you like to play around with memory.

After owning both platforms I find the better question is what are you willing compromise for value, benchmarks don't tell you the full story. This two years I have I had an 8400, 8500 ,8700k, 8086k, Ryzen 2200G, 1800X, 1700 and currently running Ryzen 5 2600 build just to try it out so i'm not bias to any one brand. AMD setups has quirks that I am not prepared to live with for me 9700K is my ideal CPU because do what I want and not give me any issues for that i'm willing to pay the price, I just can't get one so I ordered the 9600k as a temp CPU.

seriously if i had the money....8086k on a nice z390; thats today. i could change my mind though. and on high end cooling an 8 core 9th gen should do 5.0 GHz...or close to it.

    edit: i don't know. i'm never satisfied. it's a curse :)

What are the dealbreaking quirks? Genuinely asking, as my last two long-term PCs have been Intel but I am doing more and more video editing so pondering some Threadripper action for my next build.

edit: actually I'm trying to think of when I last had an AMD PC, not counting a weird laptop thing. hrm. Slot A, then some Socket A stuff.. but nothing since I think. Crikey. I guess the Q6600, i7-920 and i5-somethingorother do cover over a decade between them.
