the Z906 is the successor to the Z5500... they don't sell the Z5500 any more. If you find them for sale it'll be old stock. speaking of old stock... i reckon i'll be selling my Z5500s soon with replaced pod LEDs... i don't use the surround sound these days so i reckon a set of Audioengine 5+s would be a great replacement :D

I went from the Z5500's to the Z906's and I'm very happy with the change. Being perfectly honest I think the Z906's don't give the same flexibility as the previous gen but overall I think they perform very well for my needs. Z5500's also had an excellent resale value even many years down the track.

I went from the z340 to the z640 to the z680 to the z5500. I stopped at the z5500 years ago because the z906 didn't seem much of a step up as I agree it has less flexibility.

ive used the Z5500D and Z906, the 906s aren't as good in pretty much every way. They also made the Z5500 resale go up, you used to be able to get them for as low as $130 secondhand before the z906 came out :D

I don't think they are quite as good but I'm still very happy with the purchase....the Z5500's were aging.

I also think the control pod looks a lot nicer on the Z5500:D

Definitely a big fan of the Z5500s over the Z906s... they project the sound much more into a bigger room. I've used both for my TV and Z906s were pretty disappointing in that setting. That said, they both aren't 'proper' media speakers, or anywhere close to an accurate 'flat' sound but the big sub on the 55's definitely makes a nice rumble during movies. :leet:

Just did another successful LED replacement on my other pod. scuse the poor contrast, the LCD was still hot from the soldering:

Just used a regular soldering iron, flux pen, sharpened tweezers and regular tiny SMD blue LEDs which I mounted on their side (i forget which type... the small ones)

I think i'll put some heat sinks in this one as my other pod finally died from the heat :( the ICs in the pods run very hot

I've had my Z5500's for around 10 years now and they're still going strong. Probably the best investment I've made with my setup alongside my korean 27' IPS monitor.

The only issue I sometimes get is that the fuse would blow (has happened 4 times so far, usually during a power outage/surge...).

My Crossover monitor is amazing!!! have yet to see a display that matches it for contrast / black levels (granted I haven't looked at any new high-end ones, but they are at least five times the price!)

Yeah I've had them for 10 years as well. I did buy them second hand on the foreums here, but they were less than a year old, and they have never skipped a beat.

That's one problem I heard quite a bit about but never had. Although a straight forward fix, so wasn't a very big issue really.

That's fair enough, it was a while ago that they did sell them.
