Hi, personally i think its a total waste of money.

i want the ability to use more than 2 video cards (the other features are ok but they screwed up and gimped this model in my opinion.)

im looking for a mobo to fit 3 or 4 of my 6970's...

    cheers Alan.

ps. forgot to mention im looking at buying a Asus WS revolution, suits what i want perfectly.

I guess in that aspect it is, but for all the other features I think it's worth it, will have to wait and see /w bulldozer a month away though.

Personally I like the idea of having the killer e2100 & being able to sell off my old soundcard if I did happen to go with sandybridge. Hopefully there is a AM3+ version in the works..

Hate the 990FX-UD7's pcie spacing >_<

Another VERY in-depth review, definitely worth a read whether you want the board or not:

Morph you need to consider the SB bandwidth, only really meant to be SLI or CF maybe 3-way but 4 way is pushing it or not going to happen. This is why benchers or people with the need of anything other than 3 way still use the x58 ATM.

This mobo will compete directly with the Maximus z68 and it seems it will be better already, the g1 x58 also competes again with the x58 r3e and r3e black Ed.

The onboard sound it has is a good feature and I'm starting to wonder why the maxi is as exp as it is and does not have quite the features as the g1 does. Again ASus are overpriced, this is why I went with asrock.

having the board thats non efi is good

efi looks good but has many compatibily problems with add on cards(esp high end raid)

    i know of 1 bug..

usb floppy drive bug (installing xp raid drivers via floppy)

    1) usb floppy boots.=cool

    2) usb (a:\) is detected by xp cd+ finds raid drivers) finds it a a:\ drive

    3) formats hdd etc)

    4) when it comes to copy files from floppy + cd to do next part of install, floppy (goes dead)(either changes letter, or disconnected) no light noise...

    says please put in floppy...

    does this on asrock pro 68 + fatality 68/67 + asus extreme..formula 68

not sure if its a 67/68 chipset or a efi bios, but non efi boards allways pass this test.

yes slipstrem drvers (nlight) fixes problem) but floppy drive raid install vis usb fails.

p.s the internal floppy on my z68 asrock fatality works ok...(i did the tests) just usb floppy fails full xp raid install?

    wierd?

    (p.s i use win xp (work) + win7 64 games(main).

    pro 2 efi bios...

addon high point x1 2300 card.. problems..

tv pci-e x1 card non detection in board, works on 1366 ud5 gigabyte..

    list goes on..

efi , problems with mouse detection,(not many, just afew)...

efi more user freindly, but less compatibly that older bios tec

i do like the efi, multi boot, instane into bios option etc...

usb 3.0 leguce option good, and sata 3 add on i/o bootable good

I would also go asrock over asus, if I end up going bulldozer and they don't release any AMD G1 variants :(

I can appreciate the XFast LAN features at least.

Hi, i know exactly what you mean, i have been weighing up buying a z68 maximus or a p67 ws revolution .. i have decided to wait for the next gen and grab that instead...

im just bloody bored as hell... the p67/z68 platform works nice and sweet but so boring.... i had more fun o/c socket 775 stuff...

I do actually like this mobo but I would prefer the extra pcie lanes.(if it had them i probably would grab one now)

    Cheers Alan.

Anyone who chooses this over a Maximus IV Extreme Z is either:

    a) Retarded

    b) 12 years old

    c) all of the above

    EDIT:

    d) Gertie you are no longer my friend.

So for $445 I can get the maximus extreme, which overclocks better.

Or for the same price I can get the g1 sniper 2, which still overclocks, has the built in xfi & network controller, + pci-e 3.0.

I can understand from a pure overclocking perspective but for anyone a bit more conservative I don't see the problem with it, as long as it'll do upto 5ghz that's plenty.

    I have the Fatal1ty Z68 Professional Gen3

The fatal1ty usb 2.0 port a waste of time....
Most good mice can change the port via software..(ie logitech g9x polls usb at 1000 if you want

The fast boot(instant boot) is available on any board thats has ds3/s4 bios power saving/sleep modes...

The lan(fast software).. is good , but i been using it for 1+ years now(they just bought a oem copy) from ..cfos.(free + can upgrade it(i think, it latest version)

The usb x-faster software (again) maybe oem bough from some one(not seen how yet)... does a little change in software , for a slightly faster transfer rate(works on usb 3/2 ports) but can give usb stability problems.

    ..

    whats good

ide+ floppy onboard if you need it.

(ide can free up 1 sata port if you plug in a dvd burner)+ have mega hdd setup?)

intel z68.. fast raid sata ports (6 of them) 2 are sata 3+ 4 are sata 2.

max bandwith of z68? not sure but im getting from my raid 0(3xssd sata 2) 840mb/sec (hdtach) (where x48 ich9) max i/o is 740mb/sec0

    efi bios boot faster..
has usb legacy support for usb 3.0 + can boot from add on sata 3 ports..

m/board has 2 chips for sata 3 add on ports(1 chip control 2 ports)

3x chips for usb 3.0 (ie no bridge chip (hub) sharing usb 3.0 ports/bandwith)

    bad..

average on board sound...I just re-plug in my Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium FATAL1TY Pro PCIe
oclocking software not so good(no auto in it etc) for new users
efi bios compatibility problems with cards(esp raid+ older cards)

usb 3.0 chip has many compatibility problems with usb 3.0 products....
(not nec) common problem is device drops when copying data..etc

Conservative in terms of not buying a board just to overclock with, I hardly call the maximus IV boards conservative either if we're talking about aesthetics. But then it just comes down to personal preference.

For anyone that just isn't into extreme overclocking and likes the idea of a bit of futureproofing with pcie 3.0 & inbuilt sound & lan cards, there's nothing wrong with the G1.sniper 2

Eh, like I said, personal preference, I don't find it any worse than a flat piece of black & red heatsink on the maximus & asrock boards.

As long as it does a sufficient job of being a 'heatsink' and doesnt get in the way of anything I wouldnt care if it was a shaped like a dare iced coffee lol.

    And honestly I don't see what makes the other two so great rofl;

Lol so because it has a fancy heat sink it's worth $450

Tell my why its better than my $320 p8z68 deluxe board with 3x pcie ports, graphical bios, 4x 6gb sata ports and more, heck it even has a wanky iPhone app to control the bios.

All these for $130 less. Bargain.
