Take with a massive grain of salt: https://twitter.com/hms1193/status/1262778942303371265

However, I don't see why x370 chipsets can't be supported too. The Crosshair VII x470 and the Crosshair VI x370 are very similar - therefore, it wouldn't be terribly difficult to backwards support the Crosshair VI if ASUS releases a BIOS for the Crosshair VII.

    1...Msi tomahawk b450 with ryzen 3 bios $215

    2...Msi $280 570 with 1220 codec

3...Gigabye auros pro $239 b450 with 1220 codec, but requires manual bios update.

I thought AMD might relent on the max.

I kinda wish they didnt with the other boards though.

    Whiners gonna whine.

I've got an Aorus B450m and a MSI B450m Mortar, the Aorus can barely handle the 3900x where as the B450m Mortar can with PBO enabled.

So Mortar Max gets my vote.

Yeah I think I'm gonna pull the pin on the motor Max. Current cpu/motherboard is 6 years old now

But they did.. They were implied that they would get a full life out of that very expensive platform. AMD made statements. Board partners made even more explicit statements.

    I chose a B450 board because:

    • X570 doesn't offer any significant feature for the MITX form factor
    • X570 has active thermal cooling, which is particularly annoying for a mitx slient build
    • X570 mitx motherboards weren't in retail channels. People forget that the MITX boards were ~4-6 months later than the other boards.
    • I don't intend to use a PCIE4 drive.
    • It was promised to be compatible with the next generation Ryzen.
I didn't buy it because it was cheap. At time it was the most expensive Mitx board in stock. Most expensive board of its type is low end? Its not about people being cheap, in many cases these are the BEST board even for high end builds.

You tubers are still recommending b450 boards for 3950x builds..
    -10:50 Recommends b450 over x570 for a 3950x build.

    But they aren't here yet.
And AMD and board partners are still selling B450 today (x470 has basically dried up) and touting socket longevity! How is that possible if that is a dead end? B450 boards are out selling x570 20 to 1.

amd really shot themselves in the foot, the backtrack makes them look worse if anything because they could have been candid from the start.
still not happy everyone had to throw a bitchfit to make them do what they should have
I mean fair enough if b550 came out but what its been over a year now and still nothing? Still gonna boycott and buy a zen3 used when zen4 comes out

Where you actually promised it to be compatible with next Gen?

They're still selling B360 through to Z390 1000:0 currently , and they're a dead end in, what?, 3 days .. But I know, AMD are expected to be 3x better than Intel in this regard, they've dropped the ball and fell to 2x better, everyone bitched, now they've had to do this rather awkward, and compromised solution..

and I should emphasis, this is a COMPROMISED solution , mainly because someone above asked if they should still buy B450 with that news - I say no, wait a a couple of weeks or whatever it is

But they did... and also didn't, note the asterisk and the associated disclaimer?
It does not say anything about specific generations, and anyone relying on an implication is buying on an assumption.

And technically, its correct regardless of the disclaimer, before they backpedalled you could still upgrade your processor after zen3 is released, but it'll be to a zen2 chip unless you already have the best chip in there already.

^^ Besides... Until 2020 is not 2020 inclusive...

Given this.. They are purely doing the nice thing here...

Cant wait to see all the people b*ing when they buy a new/2nd hand x470 and a Zen3 and it wont boot... This is going to be a support nightmare and AMD knows it.

it also started 1 jan 2017.. So you are saying its a complete lie and fabrication on AMD's part? Or should we infer that it has a greater than 6 month window either side? It was released July 2018, at the launch of the B450....

    upload_2020-5-20_15-26-43.png

    B450 is still for sale.
B550 chipset hasn't even been launched yet.

AMD didn't just make this decision out of pure goodness. There were sound legal arguments. As the HWUB video showed, it was already costing partners money.

AM4 was released in Feb 2017, From July 2018 (this graph)... Last I checked that would be 24 months window to July 2020 (and I doubt we will see Zen3 until Q3 2020). So where is this 6 month window crap coming from?

But the graph starts at 00:01 Jan 1 2017 and ends 23:59 31 dec 2019 according to some.

The crap is coming from AMD ambiguous graph. People are reading days into a graph which just broadly shows years. According to 335 GT's view, AMD should stop supporting all AM4 on dec 31 2019 and the platform only existed 1 jan 2017.

All of which is stupid because AMD explicitly said..
    https://community.amd.com/community...4-platform-longevity-getting-ryzen-3000-ready

I assume x570 will cease support now. None of the new APU's will probably work with this platform,as the A520 and B550 chipsets is soon to be released and x570 is dumped as its been out for a while now and X570 is now low end special. They are old and broken and stupid.

We should probably just throw our x570 boards in the bin, they don't have a big enough bios.. All 4000 series CPU's will only work in B550 and A520 chipsets.

oh boy if there's a hack to get it to work for my b350 board it'll be epic!!
otherwise i'll have to just find a cheap 3000 series cpu once 4000 is out to upgrade from my r5 1600.
