okay my apologies to whoever bought the one at kmart!

Okay so I picked up the mistral branded one at target the other day which had the octopus on the grill itself and it was 1/3 deeper than the princess/kmart one.

So i tried it today and I was really successful, ill post pics later!

Which Woolworths did you buy the maker from?
I wanted to buy one when they had it in Aldi but couldn't find one.

They would be long gone by now, as when i bought them they were on the reduced items rack. Try looking in the section of woolies that sell cheap kitchen appliances....it should be available in any of them, if not then you have to look elsewhere (like china town)

For those of you in Sydney, if you head to Paddy's Market at Flemington on Sundays when they sell general crud, there are a few kitchen equipment stalls that sell the proper takoyaki pans. About $15 each and you put it straight onto the stove or those hot pot portable stoves. Cast iron so they retain the heat very well to give it the crusty outside but oozey inside.

BigW have a 'dutch pancake maker' in their latest catalogue, I think it might be an actual dutch pancake maker though as the holes look pretty shallow.

However, Crazy Clarks has one too and the holes in it look nice and deep

This thread inspired me to give these a go. Initially I purchased a dutch pancake maker on ebay for the bargain price of $10, unfortunately it turned out to be too shallow. I ended up buying a cast iron takoyaki plate from the markets for $15.

I got the method down pat at home first before taking it to work. I found that using a squeezy bottle for the batter and a fondue prong for flipping them worked very well.

So I took my takoyaki pan to work, should of seen the faces of the people I work with when I banged out some prosciutto, porcini, bocconcini and roast garlic - yaki. Served with aioli and parmesan :D Pics to come.

I'll do them again this week. Only this time I'll serve them on a bed of rocket with a parmesan, aioli and balsamic glaze garnish.

Picked up a Mistral branded Dutch Pancake Maker earlier in the week and tried it out today. Surprisingly, it all went pretty well and actually tasted good :)

Just a question to those with the Mistral brand maker. Does your grill pan wobble a bit on the heated base? Mine seems to be balancing on the switch in the middle of the base. The wobble isn't too bad but it also looks like the heating element isn't directly contacting the pan. What other people's like?

Bought that exact one a few months ago and had exactly the wobble. Then the element burnt out in the first week of using it so got my money back on that and went and bought the cheap one they had for sale at Crazy Clarks discount store. Uses the same plate etc but this one is screwed to the base. Harder for cleaning but has no wobble.
